FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS & ANSWERS: Parent Question: Do I need to have an appointment to speak with someone at CGMS? Answer: The short answer is NO. Thanks for checking. If you want to see an administrator, having an appointment would be best because that would protect your time. If you show up without an appointment, you may have to wait for a while but we will always meet with you and speak with you. If you need to speak with a classroom teacher, an appointment will be necessary because they are teaching and supervising students. ========== Parent Question: I have a 6th grader that will be coming to CGMS. Can you please make an exception and allow him to play baseball? Answer: This question has come up before and it is a good one. The quick answer is unfortunately no. This is not a CGMS decision. The state mandates that 6th graders not be allowed to play in any middle school sports. We are not even allowed to have 6th graders as managers. Have your child work hard and try out during their 7th grade year. ========== Parent Question: I heard that CGMS was no longer allowing teams to play on their fields without a $100 fee. Was this a CGMS decision? Answer: Thank you for the question. This was NOT a CGMS decision. The administration nor the Athletic Director had anything to do with this decision. The county has a policy on campus usage and this is a new fee starting this summer. ========== Parent Question: What should I do first if I have a question or concern about my child's teacher? Answer: Good question. Always go to the teacher first. Call them, email them, or make an appointment. If things are not resolved, then involve a grade-level administrator. ========== Parent Question: What do you look for when you are determining if my child will go on to the next grade level. Answer: Great question! We look at your child's grades all year long, their EOG scores in reading, math and science (for 8th grade), and their attendance. ========== Parent Question: What are some things that I can do at home, all year long, to help my child with school and then the End-of-Grade tests? Answer: I am glad you asked. Thanks for caring about your child and wanting to help. You can try any of the items below both now and all year long to help your child. Remember too, to always check your child's agenda and communicate with your child's teachers all year long, not just at report card times. Have them spend time at the public library or at a book store with supervision. You can also play scrabble, play yahtzee, or complete a crossword puzzle / word search. Always encourage your child to read a book to a younger sibling or relative. In addition you can have your child create (or purchase) flash cards that are related to reading terms or math facts (multiplication facts)---use the flash cards every single day. Flash cards are GREAT EDUCATIONAL TOOL. Lastly, you can have them read newspaper articles out loud to a parent or family member. If you have any questions, please email or call your child's homeroom teacher. ========== ATHLETICS: Some things to remember:
All athletes and parents are expected to display good sportsmanlike conduct. Parents should not address the “other” team’s coach. If you have a need, see our CGMS coach or our CGMS Athletic Director (AD). Parents should not address the referee of any game. Again, utilize the coach or our AD. At no time will it be tolerated for someone to curse, yell negative remarks, or boo.
What we want to avoid: Referees can eject anyone from the game, as that is totally within their rights. The School Resource Officer can remove anyone from any game at any time. In addition, any Principal has the right to ban anyone from their campus / any sporting event (we do not want other principals banning parents from games which their child attend).
We have a great reputation here at China Grove Middle School and we want to continue this reputation by being positive role models for our children. We look forward to a fantastic second half of our athletic calendar. Go Red Devils! ========== FYI: Simply be aware, if students are dropped off prior to 7:45 in the morning, they will not be supervised while on campus. ========== EOG PREPARATION: (try one of these activities tonight at home)
