Ms. Brennan’s Science Classes

ANNOUNCEMENT TO FAMILIES:

Today (May 12, 2008) marks my last day at St. Joe's. This morning I came to school to be sure my plans will have the follow-through I envisioned... afterall, the 6th and 7th graders have really been looking forward to dissection!  I have informed the sub of the activities your children will do for the rest of the year and left all that she will need to make that happen. 

To quell rumors and answer questions...here is what is happening:

Ii is true that I have been laid off and although my conract is valid through the end of the year....

 I have a terminally ill mother. Her surgery Saturday yeilded the result we all hoped would never come. At this point, we are hopeful that she will be able to leave the hospital and have a comfortable month or two at home. I have opted out of the rest of the year for this reason and St. Joe's has very kindly worked to make that happen for me.

6th GRADE: :

Today we begin the book, Human Biology & Health. We will have the opportunity to complete 2 chapters in this book before the year is out and I chose to focus our attention on digestion & nutrition and later, brain & senses.

Brain and senses unit to begin on Thursday, April 29th. PLease send your child with four pairs of rubber gloves (you may purchase them from Jewel). Children will use these for dissection...upcoming in about a week.

7th Grade Today, your child starts his quest to learn about invertebrates. This will be divided into two halves. The first will cover body organization and relatedness as well as worms. The second half looks at Mullosks and arthropods (squid dissection). THE TEST ON THE FIRST HALF will take place on May 5th. The test will be entirely based upon the study guide the children have been given and that we are working on in class.

8^th Grade:

Today marks the start of our physics unit. We will start the book work the day we return from spring break...until then, we will be working on a chapter project that is intended to introduce the topic of Motion! More infor to follow.....
