Tests/Assignments

Friday, September 15 - Spelling

Wednesday, September 20 - Religion

What We're Doing in Class...

Religion - We will begin Chapter 1: Jesus is the Son of God.  We will read the pages together in class and review the chapter.  A test will be given on Wednesday, September 20.

Reading - We will work on short a and i words, new vocabulary words, and begin the new story "David's New Friends" in our textbook.

Phonics - We will begin Unit 1: Reviewing Consonants.

ELA - We will work on punctuation and capitalization.

Math - We will review adding and subtracting one digit numbers.

I expect that the students can add and subtract one digit and two digit numbers.  This was done in 1st grade.  I will review these concepts with the students, but they should practice at home if they are having trouble.

Science - We will begin Chapter 1: Living & Non Living Things.

Social Studies - We will begin Unit 1: Where We Live

Spelling - We will work on words with short a and i.

Every week, the students will write each word 3x, write sentences for each word and complete the practice pages.  A test will be given every Friday.

Handwriting - We will work on print.  Please encourage your child to use his/her best handwriting when doing homework.  Later this year, the students will begin writing in cursive/script.

More Reminders...

Gym is on Thursdays.  The students must wear the gym uniform: St. Lucy's School sweatpants, t-shirt, and sweatshirt.  They must also wear plain sneakers: all white for the girls and all black for the boys.  The shoes cannot have any colors.  As per Mr. Calderin, if a student is not prepared for gym class, he/she will not be able to participate in class.

Please cover ALL BOOKS with clear contact paper.  Write your child's full name and grade in permanent black marker on the inside front cover.

Second grade goes to Mass on Fridays.  Fr. Pergjini expects that the students respond and behave themselves during Mass.  Please speak to your child about proper Church etiquette.  If your child is receiving First Penance and Communion in May, you must go to Mass every weekend.  As per Fr. Pergjini, the students cannot have more than five absences from Mass.  If they are not at Mass, they will not receive their Communion in May.  Please let me know if you need a Mass card.

If you send in money, it MUST be in an envelope! I will NOT take any money not in an envelope. Please include your child's full name, grade, & destination of the envelope.  This is to ensure that it gets to the proper recipient and you are credited for any money that you gave in.

The students are responsible for being prepared everyday with all of their supplies & anything they may need for the day (homework, books, pencils, crayons, etc...).  Demerits or other consequences will be given to any student not prepared for class.

The students' first & last names must be on all tests, homework, classwork, quizzes, and projects.  FIVE POINTS will be deducted if a student hands in his/her work without a name.  The students are reminded many times to write both names!

The St. Lucy's School uniform policy is strictly enforced.  Your child must be in his/her full uniform, including the sweater vest, everyday.  As per Mrs. Stefanini, a demerit will be given if any student is out of uniform. Please refer to the planner for the full uniform policy.  If you need to order a uniform, please go to http://www.bigappleuniforms.com/

Please put your child's full name & grade 2-1 inside all books, notebooks, folders, sweaters, coats, supplies, etc...in permanent black marker.

If your child is absent, you MUST call the main office before 9:00 am.  You may request homework at that time as well.  When your child returns to school, a note/email must be given/emailed to the teacher stating the dates the child was absent & the reason.  This is stated in the student planner & are rules set by New York State.  It is MANDATORY that you call the school & send in an absent note/email.

BOX TOPS - We are still collecting Box Tops!  There are two ways that you can help:

a) Continue to send in the box tops from the products you use.

b) Go to www.btfe.com and register under St. Lucy School, Bronx.

c) Encourage your friends & family to check for Box Tops in their homes too!
