Welcome to Music Theory!!!

Bring a music staff notebook (large size), file folder and #2 pencils to class everyday.

Try to learn basic piano skills (online?) for this class asap.

Week of 9/19/16

There will be a written test this week on all materials covered in class including BASS clef (NEW)

Week of 9/26/16

Practice the 2 handed version of Jingle Bells for a piano test that will be happening in 2 weeks

Week of 10/3 - 10/10/16

There will be written test on all lessons up to Lesson 23. This includes note reading in 2 clefs and rhythm reading up to the 8th note, including dotted notes and ties.

All students should continue to work on piano skills - 2 handed Jingle Bells.

The first RECORDING Project 'Black and White' is due in 2 weeks. The grade will count in the 1st Quarter.

Feel free to get extra help on your Project right after school. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PIANO grading for Jingle Bells will start 11/1/16. To score 100% it must be played correctly with a metronome anywhere from 60 - 120 bpm's.

All Projects are due by 11/9/16.  Students should attend extra help if needed.

Practice for Piano test - it is this week in class.

There will be a written test early next week.  Do all assigned HW in preparation for the test.

Consider spending your 'spare' time working on recording music PROJECTS.  The lab is open most days right after school for independent work.

The focus this week is on Music Intervals. Make sure to keep up with Homework and try to play/listen to all intervals - diatonic and chromatic

Week of 2/27/17

The results of 3rd Q test #1 are in. If you scored poorly see Mr. Hansen for extra help asap.

There will be HW assigned MOST nights except weekends so keep up!!!

Piano/Keyboard Harmony tests are going on and will be finished this week - prepare and practice!!!

The Sight-singing tests will start on Monday - choose 3 examples from the first 3 pages of the PINK handouts... (1 allowed per page)

We are starting a UNIT on MINOR scales. It is important to keep up with all HOMEWORK to stay ahead of the learning curve and be prepared for tests.

There will be a written test next week on minor scales, chords in keys and the 4 basic types of triads (M,m,dim,aug).
