Students will Watch" Remember the Titans" this week.

Rationale for Using the Movie: Remember the Titans is useful in clarifying the shifts in attitudes and the various personal decisions that were an important part of the progress in the early days of the process of integrating public schools in the South. Students will see how the combination of self sacrifice and self interest motivated many of the people who struggled through these troubled times.

Objectives/Student Outcomes Using this Learning Guide: Students can exercise writing and research skills through assignments at the film's end which include the role played by both high school and professional sports in the Civil Rights Movement.

Possible Problems: Minor racial violence is shown. There is a quick non consensual male-to-male kiss, not properly introduced or followed up, that may leave the audience confused. A major character is critically injured in a car accident.

The ASVAB, or Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, is sponsored by the Department of Defense and is a test that measures abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. It is also a highly effective career exploration exam for those students not wishing to enter the military, but hoping to figure out the best career pathway available to them. The test takes about three hours to administer and is FREE. At Delaware Military Academy, our are tested under ‘option 8’ meaning there is no military obligation or recruiting of any of our students who are taking the ASVAB.

  • Testing of  all Junior Class Cadets for the ASVAB will be conducted on Feb 22, 2017.

Prepare for Mid-terms

This week will be DMA's College Application Week!! The CAW committee met a few weeks ago and have a great week planned and we are excited to share them with you!!

This note will have a lot of information so please read it carefully so you and your cadets don't miss out on some of the fun activities. Our theme this year is "Yes, I can!!" This program is designed for two purposes:

  • To create a college going culture in the school. We are a college preparatory school and our intent is that all cadets graduate prepared to enter a post-secondary program. This program will help cadets at all grades to become aware of different college options and encourage them to think about college as a future option.
  • To assist all our senior cadets with the application and financial aid process.

Our plan for the week:

Monday 10/19

“Ask Me Monday” ~ teachers in all classes will be sharing their college and/or military experience with the cadets and answering questions about their post HS journey.

Understanding High School requirements: The counselors will be visiting freshman Naval Science classrooms to discuss the requirements for graduation, honors/AP options, value of a strong GPA, etc.

Tuesday 10/20

Understanding High School requirements: The counselors will be visiting sophomore Naval Science classrooms to discuss the requirements for graduation, honors/AP options, value of a strong GPA, etc.

Wednesday 10/21

College Door Decorating Judging (2:00 pm) ~ The best door will earn a pizza party (Monday 10/26) and the teacher will win a $100 Staples gift card to be used for supplies in the classroom. We will post pictures on the website after the judging is complete.

Thursday (10/22)

DMA Alumni will be coming in to speak to junior naval science classes about their college experience, the pitfalls to avoid and what they wish they had known when they were in high school.
