Parents, Progress reports went home yesterday. They need to be signed and returned by Friday, February 10. Spring pictures are February 15. Our team will be going to New Orleans on Thursday, April 5th. Students have a big test on adjective/adverb phrases on Friday. They need to study their notes EVERY NIGHT this week. The students have received a letter regarding the Smart Track survey. This is a survey that asks students anonymously about drug, alcohol, and tobacco use. Participation in the survey is voluntary. If you DO NOT want your child to participate, please sign and return the letter to me (or your child's homeroom teacher). If you don't mind if they participate in the survey, no action on your part is necessary.
Reminder: Students should not be passing notes in class. It's a distraction and can lead to numerous problems.
We are running low on Kleenex as we are heading into cold and flu season. I will give any student who brings in a box of tissues a homework pass! Our noses are running and we have nothing to catch them with!
We are reading A Long Way From Chicago this week. We will listen to a few chapters on audio, but students will read the majority of the book on their own. It's a very funny story about two children and their summer visits to see their eccentric grandmother.
We're having issues with students throwing things (especially acorns). Throwing will result in a short form/long form. Field Trip Information: *The 6th grade field trip is scheduled for Wednesday, April 4, and Thursday, April 5. Since the 6th grade is so big, we've had to split the trip between two days. One group will go Wednesday and the next group will go Thursday. I don't know yet which day our team will go.
*We will go to the Audubon Zoo and the Audubon Insectarium this year. This is the first year we've visited the Insectarium--it looks really exciting! *The total cost of the trip is $55.00. A NONREFUNDABLE deposit of $30.00 is due by December 20th, 2011. *WE NEED PARENTS TO HELP US WITH SUPERVISION ON THIS TRIP! If you are interested in supervising a small group of students on this trip, please send in your own deposit. Chaperones will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Chaperones are expected to ride on the bus. Anyone who chooses to take his/her own car won't receive the group rate and will have to pay for each attraction at the door. *No younger children are allowed to attend. *Parents, grandparents, cool aunts/uncles are welcome to chaperone. The more adults we have on this trip, the more smoothly everything will go. We need adults to ensure that our students are safe and supervised! In the previous years that I've been on this trip, the adults have had a wonderful time, too! Please consider coming on the trip with us. Partial payments are accepted. I know money is tight for many families right now. We want ALL of our students to take part in this opportunity, so if there are problems, please call Mrs. Hylender (our trip coordinator) at 601-264-4634 if there are any problems. *In order to qualify for the trip, students cannot have excessive absences (more than 9); students cannot have more than three long forms for any reason; students cannot receive OSS for any reason; students cannot land on step 5 of the discipline ladder.
Reminders:
*All students need to bring in a $10.00 fee for science and $10.00 for the technology/educational resources fee. *Please check your child's planner every Monday to see what homework assignments, tests, quizzes, and reminders they have for the week.
*All students must have a belt. It would be a great idea to send a belt for your child's homeroom teacher to keep in the classroom in case of emergencies.
*No gum is allowed in the classroom. Students caught with gum receive an automatic short form.
*Cell phones must be turned OFF and kept in the student's backpack.
