MATH

We are studying rational numbers:

Chapter 2 tests have been graded and returned to students. Students have been asked to correct the questions they missed on the test for extra credit.

SOLVING EQUATIONS:

1. Use REVERSE Order of Operations to determine what to do first.
2. Use INVERSE Operations to ISOLATE the VARIABLE (the big, fat teacher)
3. Keep the equation balanced (like a see-saw)
   

We are trying to improve Tree Frog students' calculation skills with MAD MINUTE calculation drills each day.
For the Multiplication Section, the publishers of Mad Minute indicate that 6th graders should be able to complete around 30 addition facts per minute.
If you want to help your child succeed in math, do whatever you need to do to make sure they KNOW their facts. We have played a game in class called SPEED FACTS that your child can make with index cards at home.
The best math students KNOW their facts. Students who don't know their facts will struggle.




We are completing an overview of the European historical influences. We have had some fun making heraldic devices. (Some of them are QUITE good!)

In an effort to improve reading scores, we are stressing vocabulary this year. Unfortunately, the students have not been studying vocabulary as they should have been. The first couple quiz scores have not been good on average. It is OBVIOUS that students are NOT studying.
The quizzes have come DIRECTLY from the vocabulary definitions they were given in class. Please note that I have loaded a FLASHCARD set of the vocabulary words at the bottom of this page. I am updating this deck as I add new words to the students' notebooks. It would be an EASY way to study for the quizzes! (HINT HINT)
