The Tree Frogs Team

Mrs. Barkley's Class

Date Updated:  October 4, 2009

Sorry it took a while to update my page.  The students and I have been very busy with the beginning of school.

Coming up:

Science:  We will begin a new lab this week.  The students have already discussed their experiment with their cooperative groups and we will plant some seeds on Monday.  We are checking to see if overcrowding affects plant growth.  Ask them about it daily to see if their plants are growing and if they are seeing a difference.

Math:  We have started learning some algebra and I will be adding in some advanced content as we discuss and work with algebraic equations and solving for variables.  The students will also be attempting some problem solving using algebraic thinking and trying to understand conceptually so that they can apply this in mathematical situations in the future.

If you came to PTA open house, you may have noticed that there were some problem solving group activity results posted outside in the hallway.  I have attached a file with the problems which were attempted in my math classes.  Each group had a different problem and some of them were never solved.  I really wanted to get an idea of how the students worked together and how critically they could think when given the opportunity.  The answers are also attached so that the parents and students can look at these (some are more difficult than others).  Also, the answer that is posted is probably not the only way they can be solved, so keep this in mind.

Progress reports were sent home on Friday, so please sign and return as soon as possible.  If you have questions, please send me an email or call.

Don't forget to review and sign the weekly report on Thursday evenings.
