Mrs. Brink 6th grade MonkeyTeam 2009-2010 Language Arts Beginning November 2nd I will only be teaching Language Arts on our team! See Mrs. Waller for SS questions/assignments. Thank you! November - Novel Study of A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck All reading will take place in class unless a student is absent. Each week students will have a vocabulary homework assignment. In addition, some evenings students will have a homework assignment in support of what we have read in class or the topics discussed in class. Please continue to sign the grade sheet. Ongoing assignments: 1. Wordskills - Students each have a wordskills workbook. We will learn new prefixes each week in class and students will have both classwork and homework assignments to help develope their understanding of how those word parts help them to define more complicated vocabulary terms. Test will be given at the end of each unit. 2. Reading - Students are encouraged to read at home every week. There is no required reading log at this time. On occasion, a book report type project will be assigned to accompany at home reading. Specific topics - 1st nine weeks - Biography/Autobiography Mythology Caldecotts MysteryNovel Study Propaganda Understanding my Grading System: * Classwork and class participation are a huge part of a student's grade in my class. * Daily quizes will count as one grade. * Homework will be given 1-2 times per week and will count as one grade each. * Tests styles will vary. Some will be open book or open note while others will require students to rely only on their own knowledge. All tests will count as two grades. * Projects will be assigned every couple months and will count as three grades because of the amount of time and work invovled in producing them.
