Welcome to Mr. Dexter's
6th Grade

Upcoming Events:

Progress reports will be going out on Thursday this week (December 8th). Please be sure to look for any missing work your child might not have turned in.  There are several students that have not turned in at least one assignment.  This not only gets them a lower grade due to not having the assignments done, but it also doesn't allow for valuable practice on concepts we are studying.  If your child has trouble with any concepts done in class, I would be glad to help.  However, many students do not ask questions until it is too late.  Please encourage them to speak up and I'll do my best to get them on track!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send an e-mail or give me a call!

Math News:

All classes are doing different things now, but all students will eventually be learning the same curriculum.  AIG students will be going above and beyond as they learn part of the 7th grade curriculum.  Homework assignments are different for every class so please make sure your child is writing down the correct assignment.
We are currently studying fractions and decimals in all classes except AIG.  AIG students are learning about integers.  ALL students that don't know their multiplication facts should plan on studying them at least 3 times a week for 10-20 minutes.  So much of what we do requires knowledge of these facts as a foundation.  Give it a try and see what happens!!
Please be aware that every Thursday grade sheets are to be signed.  You can look at them at any time during the week though to check on their progress and see any grades they may have.

                Parents:

Please feel free to contact me at school anytime you have a question or a concern! I am here to help and look forward to doing so in any way I can! The student planner is also a great way to communicate. Please check this every day for any notes that our team might have written in there. This is where students are supposed to write their homework down as well. Conduct sheets are supposed to be stapled in the front of your child's agenda.  This is where we document any behavior issues your child may have.  These sheets are to be signed weekly on Thursday nights.  If you have any questions, please let us know!
Another note: In middle school, we have a telephone system called homework hotline. Students and parents can call this to check homework assignments if absences occur, an assignment was not written down, etc. The telephone number to the hotline is in the front of your child's student planner.

Thanks in advance for your support!!  It's been a great open to the school year and I hope your child is having a great experience in middle school so far!  Again, if there is anything I can do, please don't hesitate to let me know!

I will be working on this page on at least a monthly basis. Please keep checking for new stuff! Thanks!! --Mr. Dexter
