Building with family Blocks

Dear Pre-K Families,

In class we have been learning a lot about blocks and the different ways we can use them. During block center the students have been sharing with each other, growing socially, and learning a lot about one another. I would like to extend a family activity home for you and your child to share the same experiences they are having in school at home with you as well. I would like for you to create a "family block." In order to create this "family block" you will need an empty tissue box stuffed with newspaper. You and your child should cover the tissue box in his/her favorite color construction paper. Each side of the box should be decorated to describe your child, for example, family photo, child's name, picture of friends or siblings, etc. We would love to bring a piece of home to school so the children can learn even more about each other. I can't wait to learn more about each of your children.

Thank you,

Mrs. Prela

Fashion Show

Dear Pre-K Parents,

As you know, we have been working on our clothing unit for the last six weeks. Your children have learned many different things about clothes from how they are made to how to model their clothing. The St. Lucy's Early Childhood Academy will be having a Fashion Show this Friday, January 20th. Please have your child dress in their FAVORITE OUTFIT; they will be showing it off to their friends as they walk down the "runway." Please discuss the outfit with your child, why their outfit is special and where they got it from. Children will have the opportunity to share that information with their friends.

Thank you for your continued support as we make the childrens’ learning fun!

Tie Dye Project

Dear Pre-K Parents,

As you know we are working on our clothing unit. Your children have learned about different types of clothing, the material they are made of, different ways to fastening clothing, etc. one of our up coming projects is creating our own t-shirts. We will be tie dying our own shirts using our favorite color dye. Your child will need to bring in a plain white t-shirt in order to complete this activity. Please send in the t- shirt no later than Monday, January 9th. Thank you so much for you continuous cooperation!

We Are Making Vegetable Soup

Dear Parents,

As children are learning about Clothes, what types of clothes do we wear, how we care for our clothes and how we make clothes, I wanted the children to do some cooking as well. Cooking with children is always fun but the most important thing is, children enjoy it and they learn so many important concepts. I want to show children how we can make something from just a vegetable just like I am teaching them, how small pieces of fabrics come together to create our clothes.

If you can and your means allow you, please have your child bring one seasonal vegetable to school by this Friday.

Children will wash their vegetable and prepare it for the soup, as well as help in the process of cooking and eating it.

Thank you for your continued help and support.

THEME: CLOTHING

November 14, 2016

Dear Parents,

As we get well into our study of Balls I can honestly say the children are having a ball learning. We have learned about different types of balls, shapes and sizes, what balls are made of, what is inside a ball and how can we move a ball. This week will be learning about different types of sports and what ball is used for each sport. This is where I want to take the opportunity to ask you the parents if you or anyone in your family plays a sport. If they do and they are willing to come in to talk to the children about the sport they play, the kind of ball they use and why that ball is used for that sport, what are the rules of the game, how many players, what is the job of each player and so on. I think the children would learn a lot about a sport from a player and would enjoy playing a game with them. The children would have an opportunity to ask questions.

Please complete below if you or a relative would like to participate.

Child’s Name _________________________________________

Yes ______ I play a sport__________________ and would like to participate.

Ball-Shaped Fruit

Dear Parents,

  • Children will have the opportunity to tell the class about the fruit they brought in. As a class, we will take all the fruits cut them and make a round fruit platter for all the children to try.
  • Please ask you child which is their favorite ball-shaped fruit, ex. Apple, orange, tangerine, blueberries, pear, grape, plum, strawberries, peach, apricot, cherries, kiwi, mango and any other fruit that has a ball shape.
  • Please wash all fruits before sending them in.
  • Please place the fruit inside the zip-lock bag.
  • Please send all the fruits in by Friday November 4th.

Thank you for your cooperation as we make the children's learning fun!

Ball Bag

Dear Parents,

We are working with balls and I would like the children to look around their home to see the different kinds of balls they have.

  • Have the children choose their favorite ball and bring it to school.

  • Please make sure your child’s name is written this way we do not mix it up with someone else’s.

  • Please give the bag/balls to the teacher so she is aware.

Children will have the opportunity to talk to the class about their favorite ball, what kind of ball it is, color, shape, what it's made of, what kind of game they can play with, is it soft, hard squishy and so on. This will reinforce their vocabulary and the children will be able to describe an object.

Children will be able to use their ball during gross motor to help develop their gross motor skills.

Thank you for all your help and support.

At Home

At home, you can help too. Talk to your child about activities they did in school and ask open-ended questions. Ask them what makes them special, who is in our family, what would you like to be when you grow up, what features do you have. Talk to your child about family culture and traditions. This is a great opportunity for you and your child to work together.

Please send in by the end of the week:

  1. Ask your child about their favorite fruit ( please bring the fruit to school on Friday.) Children will tell the class what their favorite fruit is, why, what color it has, what shape it has, what it taste like. Children will make a fruit salad as a class to taste.
  2. Please send in a Family Picture (write the name of each family member on the back of the picture or attach a letter with it). We are creating a family tree for our classroom. This is a great way for your child to have family at school all day

Thank you for playing  an important role in our learning.

September 23, 2016

Dear Parents,

This Friday I am sending home a homework package.  While it is not mandatory for your child to receive homework, I strongly believe the packages I will provide will assist your child’s learning. The packages are designed to implement what we are learning in the classroom. This will be a great opportunity for you and your child to work on what they are learning everyday.

Homework will be sent home every Friday

Homework will be due the following Friday (you have one week to complete)

Please make sure you place the homework back in the folder the Friday that it is due; until the due date the homework can stay at home.

Please allow your child to complete the homework and do not do it for them, although you should work with them and explain the directions.

I hope you take this is opportunity to work with your child.

To Many Happy Days,

Mrs. Prela

Ms. Pazo
