October 4 - 8

Picture Day will be rescheduled.

I hope everyone has dried out from last week's torrential rains.  I have adjusted a few things for this week.

We will have Friday's spelling test this Monday and we will have the pretest for this week on long a and long o words.

Reading-This week we will be working on comprehension strategies, comparing and contrasting and long o and long a vowel sounds. Please look for the spelling words at www.spellingcity.com. We will use the highlighters to help the students prove their answers when reading a passage and answering questions.

Writing - We will work on paragraph form, nouns and verbs in sentences, and writing a descriptive paragraph about an animal.

Math - We will be rounding numbers to the nearest ten, nearest hundred, and nearest thousand. Please review place value and comparing numbers. Some students need to review subtraction facts, too.

Social Studies - The Map Skills test will be on Tuesday.  We will review on Monday. We will also identify France, England, and Spain on a map.

Science - We will continue with animals and the animal vocabulary.  This week we will concentrate on producer, consumer, herbivore, carnivore, omnivore, and food chains. We will make a food chain.

HOMEWORK:

Monday-

1.  Reading - Read for 30 minutes and get the blue card signed.

2. Spelling - Choose an activity from the sheet.

3.  Math workbook page 9 (ordering numbers)

4.  Social Studies - Map Skills test

Tuesday -

1.  Reading - WEB - Read for 20 minutes and write a WEB.  Follow the format on the white card in the notebook. Get the blue card signed.

2.  Spelling - Choose an activity.

Wednesday-

1.  Reading - Read for 30 minutes and get the blue cards signed.

2.  Spelling - Choose an activity.

3.  Math - workbook page 10 (rounding)

Thursday -

1. Reading - WEB - Read for 20 minutes and write a WEB in your notebook

2. Spelling - Choose an activity and study for test.

Friday -

Have a dry October weekend!
