WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8th Grade reading will be QUITE a CHALLENGE (R) for second semester! The Academic and Instrutional plan will focus on FCAT skills and Renaissance Reading. Our class will continue to use the following texts, but I have added FCAT Reading practice and Literature reading through the Renaissance program(AR). Rewards + ... a text designed to take middle school students closer to grade level expectations, i.e. an increase in fluency, accuracy, and comprehension in Science and Social Studies content. WORD WISDOM... text designed to provide students with strategies to unlock word meanings for effective communication. DAYBOOK OF CRITICAL READING... a research based tool developed to provide students with the skills necessary to become independent critical readers and writers. At this time, each student is completing the STAR test for second semester which will determine the number of points needed for AR goal setting. These results will be placed on page 19 of the planner by the end of January. Goals need to be reached by the end of quarter, March 23. Please continue to support your child by encouraging independent reading (approximately 20 minutes per day). |
