With the second quarter quickly coming to an end, I wanted to take the time to remind you about some of the things that the students have learned.
In Language Arts, we have worked with making connections. We have worked with text to text connections, text to self connections, and text to world connections. We have learned that the most important thing about good connections is they help you to better understand a story. After working with connections, we went on and worked with questioning. We learned that great readers are always asking questions as they read. The students also learned the difference between thin questions and thick questions. Finally, we learned about visualization.
In the second quarter, we have worked more with visualizing. We have also worked with determining importance and main idea. Last, but certainly not least, we have begun to work with inferring.

In Math we have spent a lot of time on learning more about place value. We have worked with composing and decomposing numbers. The students have worked with many different forms of numbers. They have learned about word form, model form, expanded form, and standard form. We have also learned about rounding numbers to the nearest ten and the nearest hundred. Finally we reviewed what the students know about adding and added on to it. Now, we are on to subtracting.

In Social Studies, we have studied about the Native Americans and the pilgrims. We have learned about how difficult it was for the pilgrims to set up their community and the steps they took to do so. Beginning this month, we will learn about the underground railroad.

In Science, we have worked with landforms, learning about them and comparing and contrasting them. We also worked with learning more about plants. We are now finishing our unit on bones.
