Mrs. Conrad's and Mrs. Brady's First Grade Class 2009-2010 We're the Conrad's Cubs! (Knollwood Knights) *Class Information* We're so happy to have your child in our class this year. In first grade, we do not go to breakfast as a class in the cafeteria. Please make sure that your child eats at home or gets to school in time to go to the cafeteria before 7:45. *We are excited to have Ms. Molly Harris helping out in our classroom this year. She is doing her student teaching in preparation to become an Elementary teacher. Your child may come home talking about one of their three teachers this year: Mrs. Conrad, Mrs. Brady and Ms. Harris. -Please check your child's agenda each night. -Homework folders will be sent home each Friday. There will be 3 - 4 assisnments each week. Homework is then due the following Thursday. This gives children a weekend and several days to complete homework. Please have your child take their time and not rush to finish homework. Spelling tests - Every Thursday. Please study the words with your child all week to prepare him or her for the test. These words are so important for your child to learn. We grade your child on their report card as to whether he or she mastered the words. There is also extra credit on the spelling test. For this, we give a sentence for your child to write using some of the spelling words. We look to see if they included a capital at the beginning and a period at the end. -Read to your child--this is important as well as having him/her read daily! Spelling Words for November (We will assess your child each Thursday on these words): November 5 : or one had by word November 12: but not what all were November 19: we when your can said What we are doing in: Language Arts: 1.02 a Generate sounds from all the letters - short vowel sounds and reading 3 letter words (consonant - vowel - consonant) 3.02 High Frequency Words 2.02 Read a variety of texts Math: 1.01 Develop number sense for whole numbers through 99. (1-25) 1.02 Use groupings of 2's , 5's and 10's 1.03 Begin single digit addition 1.04 Problem Solving 5.02 Venn diagrams (similarities and differences) 5.03 Create and Extend Patterns Writer's Workshop: Introduce Writer's Workshop. Begin sketching, labeling, drawing, adding sentences Social Studies: Citizenship, Past vs. Present, Special Days     IMPORTANT DATES: November 10- First Report Card Issued November 11- Veteran's Day holiday (no school) November 24 - Early Release Day (12:00 Noon) November 25 - 26 - No School *Lunch each day is from 11:35 - 12:05 Come have lunch with your child!
