    *Class Information*
We're so happy to have your child in our class this year. In first grade, we do not go to breakfast as a class in the cafeteria. Please make sure that your child eats at home or gets to school in time to go to the cafeteria before 7:45.

-Please check your child's agenda each night.

Reading Logs - Please have your child read each night during the week and at least once on the weekend. Ask your child some of the questions on the back of his or her reading log after reading. Please sign the reading log each night and return it to school. Please record minutes read for our new reading program. Your child should read 20 minutes each night in order to meet his or her goal.

When you read a library book, please record it in your child's reading log. Then, return it to school so your child may get a new book. Only one book is to be checked out at a time. Please read the book with your child and ask him or her to retell what the story was about. Happy Reading!

Book in the bags will be sent home on Tuesday nights. Please let your child read as much of this book as possible. You may want to partner read with your child. Have fun reading! Children should read for 20 minutes each night.

-Homework folders will be sent home each Friday. There will be 3 - 4 assignments each week. Homework is then due the following Thursday. This gives children a weekend and several days to complete homework. Please have your child take their time and not rush to finish homework. Please let us know if homework is taking your child too long. We really want them to have time to read. Let me know if you want extra challenge homework for your child.

Spelling tests - Every Thursday. Please study the words with your child all week to prepare him or her for the test. These words are so important for your child to learn. We grade your child on their report card as to whether he or she mastered the words. There is also extra credit on the spelling test. For this, we give a sentence for your child to write using some of the spelling words. We look to see if they included a capital at the beginning and a period at the end.

-Read to your child--this is important as well as having him/her read daily!

Spelling Words  (We will assess your child each Thursday on these words)
