Welcome to Mrs. Ransom's Math Class 

& Back to School Night 2010!

Student Supplies – Everyday students should bring these math supplies to class:  pocket folder, spiral notebook, coveredmath book, pencil/eraser, agenda, completed homework (if assigned), bellringersheet (Tues.-Fri. only).  Studentswill also keep a second math spiral notebook in my math classroom for writingactivities. 

Classwork/Homework – Each is worth 10 pts, usually given daily.  Students will sometimes begin homeworkin class.  Usually there will be nohomework on test days.  Yes, therewill be homework on Friday, unless there is a test that day.  Homework is like football – you have to“practice”.  Homework turned inlate will be given only 20% credit.

Bellringers – Students startclass each day with a bellringer. Students should correct them in class when we go over them.  Students who are absent must stillcomplete missed bellringers.  Theywill be posted for 1 week on the “white board” in the back of myclassroom.  On Friday I collect thebellringers for the week. Bellringers are worth 2-5 points per day if complete, correct, & thework is shown.  Late bellringerswill be given only 20% credit.

Homework Help After School – It is best to make an appointment in advance to be sure I don’thave a schedule conflict (committee, faculty meeting, etc.) and so your childcan arrange transportation home. Homework help will usually run approximately 3:10 – 3:40. 

Homework Help Online – This is a wonderful new feature of our new math series!   It has instructions and examplesfor every section of every chapter! You will find clickable links to this on my website.

Quizzes/Tests – Quizvalues can vary, usually 20-50 points, and may be given between tests, asneeded.  Tests are worth 100 pts,and are usually given weekly. Quizzes & tests are always returned to students with instructions toshow parents.  I do not require orcheck signatures.  It is thestudent’s responsibility to show parents quiz & test grades the day theyare returned.  Notification ofupcoming quizzes or tests will be given in class & on my website.

Extra Credit/Bonuses – Usually these are worth 4 points if complete &correct.  Tests will usuallyinclude at least 1 bonus problem. All extra credit & bonuses are optional, but recommended.  They do have deadlines.

Turning Work In to be Graded – Students will turn in all quizzes, tests, late or make-uphomework, and extra credit to the basket on my desk to be graded.  Students are welcomed to turn work inearly.  However, it won’t be gradeduntil the due date.  Students willgrade their on-time homework themselves when we go over it together.  If your child says he/she turnedsomething in, and doesn’t get it back, either it had no name on it, or it wasnot turned in.  I never ever lose apaper!  I do have a “No Name Lost& Found” on the back wall in my classroom.

Late/Missing Work – Allwork turned in late is worth only 20% of its original value.  Students should make an effort tocomplete assignments on time.  Also,replacements for missing/lost homework assignments will not be available afterone week past their due date.  Workassigned during a student’s absence is due within a week, for full credit.

Grades – I updategrades approximately every 2 weeks. When I update grades, I will notify each student of his/her presentaverage.  It is never asecret!  J  Even better, you can check your child’sgrade online in the Parent Portal! You will find the Parent Portal at https://eschoolbooks.chichestersd.org/eschoolbook/scbk/admin/login.cfm.  You will have access to the ParentPortal & to my webpage 24/7 from any computer with an Internet connection!
