Essential Questions for First Trimester:
Reading: Silent reading time takes place at the beginning of every class period. Students are expected to have their book with them every time they come to class. We have completed reading our self-selected multicultural text and students were asked last week to select a choice book and bring it to class on Tuesday. Their choice book may be any genre and students were asked to keep in mind their first trimester reading goal when selecting a book. I have many books in my classroom for students to choose from. They may also bring in a book from home or borrow one from the library. Reader Response Journal: As a way of keeping students accountable for their choice book and as a way to make their thinking visible, students will turn in a Reader Response journal entry once a week. The first Reader Response is due on Monday, October 3rd. Subsequent journals will be due October 13th and October 21st. Students will receive a deadline credit of 5 points for turning their Reader Responses on time. Journals will be graded after the third entry is submitted on October 21st. This week's Mini-Lesson is on "Writing About Reading." Native American Culture Unit: This week, we begin our unit on Native American culture. Students will discuss common cultural stereotypes of Native Americans and read a persuasive essay about the use of Native American mascots in sports. They will respond to the essay by formulating their own opinion on this issue and sharing it in their writing journals. ******************************************************************************************** Humanities II: Due Wednesday, September 28th:
Due Friday, September 30th: Reader Response Journal - see description in Humanities I This week's reading lesson is on "Writing About Reading." Essential Questions for First Trimester:
