Welcome to Mrs. Wilkins Class Page

*Pre-K is a time that children begin a lifetime of learning - a year for growing, making friends, and a lot of fun, too! Please visit this site to stay informed of the activities that take place in our classroom.

**Weekly Happenings**

We will continue our discoveries involving our "Plant Unit". We will engage in discussions about how plants grow and why they are important. Students will converse with one another about their prior knowledge of plants. They are learning so much from one another! The students will continue to have a blast as the unit progresses. They are involved in many hands-on-activities associated with plants. We love discussing all the many plants, trees and flowers we come in contact with. They have really enjoyed become little gardeners. We loved watching their faces as they planted their own seeds. The students are so eager to come to school daily to see how much their seed has grown. Creating plant journals was also a "hit" in our science center. We are looking forward to the continuation of this exciting unit!

The children are so excited about our "new" class pets. We were fortunate enough to get caterpillars and watch them develop into butterflies! The children have enjoyed watching the different stages of their life cycle. Now that they have all transformed, the children are so eager to release them!

**Our Weekly Vocabulary**

**Student Of The Week**

**Parent Involvement/Extension**

Discuss the importance of "Plants" with your children. Ask them why they are so important and how they provide for us. Explain the impact "Plants" have on our daily lives. Ask them to tell you all the different types of plants they can think of.

Please encourage your child to practice writing his/her name everyday. It is important that they practice as much as possible. Now is the time when they begin to make connections with print. Also, please be sure to read with your child daily. After reading, ask him/her questions related to the text. For example, "how did you feel about the text", "what does it remind you of", "what did you like or dislike about the text", "were there any parts that surprised you?" Going over colors, shapes, numbers and letters is very important as well. This will help reinforce what we are doing in the classroom.

"Education is like a baseball game, it needs all its players, teachers, parents and students! Together will we give your children the roots to grow and the wings to fly!"
