VERY IMPORTANT!

Every student must have the book, The Glory Field, by Walter Dean Meyer. We will start using those in class and at home Monday the 2nd of November; that's just next Monday! The students will fall behind if they don't have their own copy. Much of this will be read at home on their own and we'll have activities and discussions over the reading at school.

Thank you for having your copy on time!

Guidelines for Creative Writing

Creative Writing Portofolio

Parameters for your portfolio:

  • It must be neat and professional looking!
  • It must be free of grammar/spelling errors
  • It must be original
  • It be something you are proud of!

Some ideas for genre:

  • poetry of any kind (sonnets, quatrains, limericks, cinquains, concrete poems, simile or metaphor poems, etc...)
  • short stories
  • chapters from a book you are working on
  • journal entries (I will read these so make sure you are okay with that!)
  • Scenes and acts from a play you are working on
  • letters
  • illustrated comic books
  • illustrated children's books

You are not limited to these ideas. If you come up with another idea, go for it! The idea is for you to have a nice portfolio of original work to take with you at the end of the year. This will be graded for completion every week. Each work should be dated on the back with the Friday of that week's date. The notebooks will stay in the classroom!
