Good Morning,
Team 6-1 Science Students
Our students in the final stages of revising Power Points and creating their lesson plans that includes, but not limited to using note-cards, quizzes, games. Students may dres professionally for extra credit,
Please assist your child during a home rehearsal. Things to look for:
Voice-loud and clear; following their plan, quizz -ready-hperlinked websites, pronunciation and knowledge of the terms used in the plan.
Each student will be assigned a day by Friday. We will attempt to have 4 presentations each day.
*The use of our new portable Laptop Lab has made it possible each student to use technology during class.
Students may be nervous. Our classroom is home and supportive atmosphere is expected.

TESTING-TESTING
Our students are taking the ITBS test Monday-Friday October 26 - 30. Please encourage them to eat non-sweet foods in the morning..especially candy. Fruit,cereal and toast aqre good choices. They must focus throughout the test. It is the same number of days as the CRCT for Middle Grades.
*Student are writing an adventure story"My Journey to the Center of the Earth" . Fiction story with characters using Geology terms. Due Friday Oct. 30, 2009.

Student Powerpoint Teaching Day will be assigned this week in order to begin on Monday. Your child may dress up for extra points. Please go over their plans, index cards, teacher made quiz/test, posterboard.
We plan to have 5 students per day. Of course that may be wishful thinking. We will not rush through, but will give them time. Some are already a bit nervous, eventhough we practice at the Smartboard several times a week.

Students that are working on their Geology Powewr Points at home. They may use a posterboard, index cards, tri- boards or a combination of all three. Each student will teach 15-20 minutes.

1. Neat no composition paper
2. Cover page...Title; full name,and class period.
2. Pages typed or written in black or blue ink.

Request: Science Folder with pocket and prongs-required and must be in order by date! Please help your child MEET THE STANDARD.
Many students are using composition notebooks and papers are missing. There should be 3 permanent copies from me in the pocket. Folder check Sept. 30-October 2, 2009. End of the 1st Nine weeks is Oct. 8. Report Card Day-Oct. 13. Please sign and return the outside of the gold envelope and keep the information inside. All Science folder work and graded papers are expected to be in the folder.
Martians are ficticious creatures that do not look like the aliens portrayed in movies. They are your creation. Draw your design and make it out of household items. You may name it:).

GA Georgia Performance Standards are located in the front of the Science Book on pages GA 26-36. The are posted at the beginning of each chapter.

Each student will be assigned a part of the Rock Cycle to teach in class during the month of October. Please check your child's Science Folder or ask him/her.

Coca Cola Space Science Challenger Learning Center field Trip was a success!
Our students were well prepared, but were surprised and excited to have the opportunity to operate the highly technical equipment.
We learned about the night sky and the planet Mars during the Omnisphere Theater two shows.
Students worked hard to find the answers to the questions for the Scavenger Hunt inside the facility.

*Field Trip to Space Science Center *-Sept. 9th & 10th.
Location: 702 Front Street next to the Trade Center
Students may not be dropped off or picked up from the center. If there is an emergency, notify the school(Mr. Cox). He will contact me at the center and give me further instructions.
Thank you for returning the Field Trip Permission Forms.
We board the bus promptly at 8:35. Lunches have been ordered. No gum allowed. Personal items (purses)not allowed. Wear long sleeve shirts, no jackets because there is no place to secure them.

Students are using the front of the Science Book to match GPS with Branches of Earth Science.
All Georgia Performance Standards sre located on pagew GA 26-36. All pages have a thick green line on the edges.
Standards require that each student is able to articulate (explain) and demonstrate their knowedge about a topic. Making connections with the "real world" that we live in will increase performance.
Projects, fiction/nonfiction stories,presentations and more. Your child will be able to choose how he/she will share their work.
*Draw & and make your Martian( household items)- due September 22-24.
Be creative- One prize per class for the best use of non-purchased items.
Don't show the competition your Maritan...surprise.
* kleenex boxes paper towel holders, foil, sticks, buttons, old scraps from clothes, pipecleaners, clay, rocks, broken jewerly-stones, hangers, toothpicks, popsicle sticks.

It is important for students to communicate daily. Do not accept"I don't have any Homework". Have them to show you the new Science Book and discover how much you can enjoy this book with them:).
Sometimes parents are very tired and our young students automatically respond in this manner. Success in Middle School depends on you. It is their responsibility, but everyone gets upset when goals are not met.

Announcements: Academic Field Trip to the Coca Cola Space Science Center will take place for my students on September 9 & 10. Please do not schedule appointments for these days. There are no makeup days.
We will leave Rothschild at 8:30 and return approximately 2:00 pm each day. Your young Astronaut will participate in the Mission to Mars. Each person has a very important job and must be present.
We are preparing everyday for this trip. Click on URL 7 at the bottom of this page and read the standards and take a Virtual Tour.
