October 1, 2011 **Astronomy Workbook assignments pages 235-289 were assigned throughtout the 9 weeks. Students are allowed to work in the workbook during class when other classwork is completed and continue at home. All Unit assignments are due. Science Folders- with pocket and prongs must be organized by date. Review the daily work with your child. Homework reinforces the difficult concepts. Monday Oct. 10 2nd Nine Weeks Geology is our next Area (Domain) of study. The study of rock and minerals and the effects of the Rock Cycle. Students will use their textbook; Library book assigned to them;( Nettrekker.com User Name is : rthmcsd ; password Rothschild); PHSchool.com; SciLinks Active Art, Discovery Channel-the codes are on the pages in the textbook. These are on-going research tools that we use in class. Students may bring in their Public Library Cards and receive 100 points. Computer time at school is limited. This unit will include a Multimedia Presentation. A Rubric will be given for content requirements of the Power Point Presentation. Current: CCSSC Summary...MTV & Mars Control Final date-Sept. 27th. Homework is an extension of classwork. Homework is not finished during the class day! Astronomy Unit Chapters 15-17. GPS ; Vocabulary Terms & Assesment Question Questions. Please check your child's folder for returned papers, on-going assignments and workbook. ****Chapter 15 Test today. Workbook assignment are due. Study Scietific Inquiry (Scientific Method). __________________________________________________________________________ September 2011 A folder with pocket and prongs for class & homework is required. Daily assignments are copied off the board daily. Worksheet and returned graded papers. All test papers are to be signed by a parent and corrected as applicable. Homework: Write a one page report. One half-MTV Mars Control Vehicle and the second half MC Mars Control. Describe your job in each. Design a Mission Patch for your Team. Include the name of your partner around the edges. Describe the CCSSC Lobby and the Scavenger Hunt.-Extra Credit **Chapter 15 Textbook...see student's Science Folder Read and discuss Georgia Performance Standards. Explain each in your own words. Underline the adjectives and verbs. Draw a diagram that is related to the Standards. See the URL at the bottom or look on GA 26-36 in your child's textbook. Define all vocabulary terms; complete the Assessment Questions; Draw and label the diagrams & copy the information about each from the board assignments on Sept. 14th. Turn in the two Solar Syswtem passed out on Monday & Tuesday (12 & 13)worksheets on Friday for an open book test grade. MAP TEST Results will be given to the students. Please assist your child with reading the Science lessons for understanding. Please review previous notes. See the Flashcards on my page- vocabulary terms are discussed daily. Review with your child. Check their folder for assignments. They must record them by class date. Safety Test results were returned and must be signed. They keep all papers in their folder with pockets and prongs. Help them organize and check their work weekly. * Students are required to read the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) found in the Science Textbook and in their notes. Metric Measurements on pages 648-649. Student smust be able to identify the metric measurements and the equipment that is used for each. Time: Depart RMS 9:00 Am Return by 2:30 p.m. School has been in session long enough for your child to have discussed our classroom procedures and activities. Your child is required to discuss our activities with you and get help as needed. 1. Science folder is organized by Name;Date,Period on all papers. 2. Warm-up and Homework -copied from the board wehn entering the classroom. 3. Earth Science Textbook -received books on Tues. & Wed. this week. Please make sure their names and teacher's name appear on the inside cover; written in permanent marker or ink. Copy the bard code number. Replacement is between $75 & 85. 4. Homework is an extension of class work. Practice and review is the ONLY way your child will be successfull. Following directions for the assignments appears to be an early weakness overall. 5. Please send a written note. I will not be able to respond to students properly without the noe and contact name and number if needed. Assignments: Classwork Design, draw and color an Earth Science related picture on the cover of the Vanilla Folder. Homework: "My Martian Story" Write a fiction story about you and your Martian friend. Draw and color the picture. 4-5 paragraphs. Classwork: Earth Science Areas worksheet Oral Reading with a partner-answer the 7 questions. List 10 rocks found on the worksheet from the surface of Mars. Find the Sojourner Rover and draw it and the rocks that surround it. Take Notes on you r"T Chart". Team Positions and Job Application will be reviewd over the next few weeks.
