Catholic Schools Week Fun

There were many great events that happened during Catholic Schools Week this year.  On Monday, students were surprised to have another teacher in our school come to our classroom for 45 minutes to teach a lesson.  They were happy to have Ms. Huvane come in to teach them a lesson on nutrition and the food pyramid.

On Tuesday, we welcomed parents to watch their kids in action in the morning during “Open School” and had a school Spelling Bee in the afternoon.  Congratulations to Josue and Olivia C. for winning the classroom spelling bee and qualifying for the school bee.  Olivia did such an amazing job.  Even though she was the youngest, she finished in second place out of all eight students from 5th to 8th grade!  She had some really tough words to spell too!

On Wednesday, we celebrated a Catholic Schools Week Mass, beautifully prepared by the eighth grade.  During Mass, Mr. White thanked the teachers and presented us with certificates.  Then the choir sang a beautiful song to us led by Mr. Bustamante.

The students enjoyed a magic show and ice cream treat on Thursday.  They had a great time at the show and were amazed by all the tricks.  Two favorites of the fifth grade students were the floating card trick and the optical illusion that made someone’s head shrink and enlarge.  Everyone also got a chance to pet the magic bunny that came out of a popped balloon.

On Friday, students watched a preview of the Drama Club’s Little Mermaid Junior play.  Everyone enjoyed seeing the first few scenes of the play performed and was excited for what they would see in the rest of the play.

The play was performed on Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday.  Congratulations to performers KaylaRose, Lucas, Shirley, Aliana, Olivia C., Olivia W., Marlyn, and Kevin and crew members Kyle and Emily for an outstanding job!!!  They worked very hard, and I’m sure they had a lot of fun and will remember it forever!

This year our school Science Fair will be held on Tuesday, February 14th.  We are looking forward to seeing some great projects again.  Last year some of our students came in first place in the Bronx Science Fair, and we are hoping for that again!

Just a few reminders....

Please make sure that your child brings 2 pencils and 2 eraseable pens to school with them each day.  This is important because crossing out is not permitted on work handed in, and white-out tends to be a distraction.

Students need to have loose leaf paper at home for homework assignments that get handed in.

Please reinforce the importance of following classroom rules, especially respecting teachers and other classmates, and only speaking after being called on.
