September 16, 2008 Dear Parents: Welcome to the first year of Arabic as a Foreign Language at Durkin Park Elementary!! Arabic is being taught in grade levels K-3 and 7-8 this year. New studies by the State Department have encouraged the teaching of Arabic in American schools in order to eliminate cultural differences between students, expose them to diverse societies, and give them skills that are necessary in an expanding world. I am delighted to be teaching Arabic this year and am very happy that this language has been received so well by our students. Learning Goals for K-3 & 7-8:
I hope that you will encourage your children to take advantage of this rare opportunity and support them in the classroom and beyond! If you have any questions or concerns about the program, curriculum, or the progress of your child, feel free to contact me. With your support, this will be a fun and rewarding experience!
