Welcome to 8th Grade Spanish!

I am so excited to once again be your teacher as you continue exploring this wonderful language. Here you will find all important information and assignments pertaining to 8th grade Spanish. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at aragauskis@qrcougars.org. I know that Spanish is not an easy language to learn, so please contact me if your student would like help with homework/studying before/after school.

Students will be using the online Voces Digital textbook for Spanish 1 this year. The book can be found using the following link: https://www.vocesdigital.com/index.php. We hope to finish most of this Spanish 1 book by the end of the year. There is a hard copy of this book in my classroom, which students know they are welcome to use during class if need be. Student log-in information is the following and was explained to students during the first couple days of class:

Class ID: QRSPANISH

User ID: lowercase first initial, lowercase full last name, QR graduation year (i.e. 8th grader Joe Smith is jsmith2020).

Dear Parents and Guardians, (letter sent home 12/20)

This letter is to notify you of the required Spanish assignments for grades 5-8 that are part of our emergency school closing day plan this year. On the first emergency school closing day, no assignment completion is required as the school will be making that day up on February 14, 2020. However, upon the second emergency school closing day, the students must choose one of the three options below:

  1. Log onto Voces Digital at https://www.vocesdigital.com/index.php. The class ID is QR SPANISH (all caps) and the user ID is the student’s first initial, full last name, and graduation year (all lowercase, no spaces). For example, a fifth grader named Joe Smith would be jsmith 2023 and an eighth grader would be jsmith2020.On Voces, (Introductory Book for grades 5 and 6, Spanish Novice for grades 7 and 8) choose any activity from any chapter and complete it. Instead of hitting the submit button, you MUST type your responses and print the page OR write out your responses on a piece of paper. If you choose the writing option, be sure to include the chapter and activity numbers. Either way, you must include your name on the paper and “Option #1.” This will be turned in to me upon return to school.

  2. Find any appropriate Spanish article, story, magazine page, menu, song lyrics, etc. and translate it by circling, underlining, highlighting, or another system you come up with. This is the translation method we have done many times in class. You may write in the English words above the Spanish text, but this is optional. The important thing is that effort is apparent and you have marked up the WHOLE text, not just the first line. Include your name on the paper and “Option #2.” This will be turned in to me upon return to school.

  1. On a piece of paper, write (or type) at least TEN sentences in Spanish on a topic of your choice (you may do this in conversation format also). You must include your name on the paper and “Option #3. This will be turned in to me upon return to school. Some topics of study to write your sentences include the following:

5th grade: saludos (greetings), the alphabet, numbers 0-1,000, and telling time

6th grade: saludos (greeting), holidays and celebrations, food and restaurant, family, house, the verb “gustar,” and the verb “estar”

7th grade: saludos (greetings), Funny Bones (story), the verb “tener,” demonstrative adjectives, question words, and the verb “ir”

8th grade: saludos (greetings), Funny Bones (story), regular ar/er/ir verbs in the present tense, irregular verbs in the present tense, the past and present tenses of “ser” and “estar,” regular ar/er/ir verbs in the past tense, and the present progressive tense.

Should you have any questions about the above assignment options, you may email me at [email protected] either before the emergency school closing days or during the hours of 9 am and 3 pm during the second and subsequent emergency school closing days.

Thank you,

Miss Ragauskis
