August 11, 2019 Writing Rubric for 180 Days
As you know the 180 Days of Reading has a writing prompt to complete on the last page. This is a weekly assignment. At this time the rubric is worth 5 points. and it will change as we continue on. 1 point - Topic Sentence - Most times this is achievable by simply restating the writing prompt question. 1/2 point is deducted if this sentence is not indented. (5 spaces) Good topic sentences should avoid pronouns. 1 point - Concluding Sentence - Wraps up the details, and is reflective of the the topic. Do not use "that", or "it", or "these"....
1 point - Details - details - details...... Write each detail into a complete sentence, and then explain it with another sentence using adjectives and adverbs. This is where I will look for descriptive language such as adjectives and adverbs, similes and metaphors, and sensory details. 1 point - Capitalization - beginning of sentences & proper nouns, always capitalize "I" (It is a word.) don't add upper case letters in the middle of words. 1 point - Punctuation - Always at the end of a sentence. (period, question mark, explanation mark) Commas should be used for pauses. We will add quotation marks in the near future.
This should give students and parents a good idea of the expectations and grading for the writing page on the 180 Days of Reading.
