Ms. Sisks Newsletter/ Information Update
Dear Parents or Guardians:
Welcome to the seventh grade!! I am so excited about sharing
in this wonderful milestone with you and your child. This will be a very exciting, yet challenging year for you and your child. The seventh grade is a time for changes and lasting memories. I will do my very best to make this a productive and successful year for your child. We are definitely changing. We are in a new grade with all new responsibilities. By working together, we can be sure that this year will be a happy and wonderful experience year for all of us. In order for me to guarantee your child, and all of students in my class and excellent learning climate, I am enforcing the following discipline plan effective immediately.
Class Rules:
1. Be prepared and on time for my class.
2. Keep hands, feet, objects and disrespecting comments to yourself.
3. Stay on task and dont disrupt others.
4. Complete all homework and class work assignments on time.
5. Follow all directions and instructions given.
Consequences:
1. Warning
2. Parent Contact (phone, letter, or email)
3. After-School Detention
4. Parent-Teacher-Student Conference
5. Office Referral
** If your child can not stay for after-school detention, then they will be assigned ISS (In School Suspension).
My Philosophy:
I believe all children are capable of learning, and behaving appropriately in my classroom. I expect there will be no student interruptions of teaching-learning process. My biggest concern is the welfare of each of my students. I hope that your child will feel at home in our classroom. I want each student to be free to experience self-expression, a personal learning style, and a desire to hope and dream to new heights. I know that as a team, you and I will make this year one of the very best.
Homework:
Each homework assignment is worth 5 points. In order to get credit ALL work must be shown.
Each child will start with a 100 for homework each nine weeks. If a homework is missed then 5 points will be deducted from that 100. If half of the assignment is missing then 2 points will be deducted. The number of points left at the end of the nine weeks will be their homework grade.
Homework will be assigned every Monday- Thursday.
Homework policy will be the same for both classes, if your child has me for math and science.
Homework will be recorded on the homework assignment sheet for both classes. This will help parents and students stay organized.
Homework Assignment Sheet will have all of your childs homework assignments for math and science written everyday.
Every Friday your child will turn in the Homework Assignment Sheet to me to be checked off. GREEN stamp means they got full credit for the homework. YELLOW stamp means they got partial credit for homework, and RED means they got NO credit for the assignment.
Your child will get the Homework Assignment Sheet back from me on Monday, or the 1st day we come to school that week. You will need to sign the Sheet and it must be returned next school day.
I will treat this as part of their homework assignment, so for every day the Homework Assignment Sheet is late. I will deduct 1 point from their homework grade.
It is your childs responsibility to get all of their assignments from me when they return from an absence. They will be responsible to make up their assignments as soon as possible.
Homework is given Monday-Thursday. They will have some type of homework every night. If there is ever a night they dont have any homework, it will be written on their homework assignment sheet as NONE and signed by me.
Quizzes:
Quizzes count as one test grade and can be given any day of the week.
. The material being covered will determine the amount of quizzes given during that chapter.
I will try my best to schedule my Chapter test on Fridays, but it depends on when we finish with a chapter.
Notebook Test:
Your child will be given 5 board work questions at the beginning of class each day, which we will go over as a class.
After completing 10 days of board work your child will be asked to turn in work from one of those days. This will be counted as a test. It must have all of the questions copied and answered to get FULL credit.
The material will be covering a variety of skills.
If your child is ever absent from school, it is their responsibility to ask either a classmate or me for the questions and answers covered.
Chapter Test:
Chapter test cover a lot of information, so they will count as 2 tests grades in my grade book.
Projects:
Projects are assigned both in and out of class.
The amount of time needed to complete the project will determine whether it will count for one or two test grades.
Projects not completed and turned in on the due date will result in a zero.
Parents will be notified of the grade as soon as possible.
****ANY ASSIGNMENT TURNED IN WITH NO NAME WILL RESULT IN A REDUCTION OF POINTS.
****ANY ASSIGNMENT COMPLETED IN PEN IN MATH CLASS ONLY WILL RECEIVE A ZERO FOR THE GRADE. ALL ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE DONE IN PENCIL. SCIENCE NOTES CAN BE DONE IN PEN OR PENCIL.
If you have any questions or concerns you may contact me at school 902-3630 or by email Claudia.sisk@gw.cherokee1.k12.sc.us.
Snacks
YOU MAY EAT IN OUR ROOM. Also, I am NOT your parent or maid. If there is evidence of snacks (crumbs, papers, trash, sucker sticks, etc.) the snacks will be stopped immediately!!!! I am a firm believer of responsible young men and women. I will allow only CLEAR drinks in my room appropriate for school. This cuts down on caffeine as well as spills that show on the tile. Drinks must be in a plastic or thermos bottles no glass or cans!
You have the right to these choices in my classroom and I expect you to take the responsibility that goes with that right. I will also have a snack box in which students may buy with their tokens. Students may also earn snacks for free.
Lockers
Lockers have been assigned (HOMEROOM ONLY). They are responsible for keeping their locker in good working condition as well as clean. If they have a problem with their locker, they are to report it as soon as possible to their homeroom teacher. (NO STICKERS, ETC., NO EXCEPTIONS!!!)
There will be random checks, and there will be rewards for clean and neat lockers.
Grading System
The grade point scale in as follows:
A --- 93-100
B --- 85-92
C --- 77-84
D --- 70-76
F --- 69- BELOW
I count Unit Math Test twice. You will receive a homework grade each nine weeks (an easy 100 if you do all your homework and turn in homework assignment sheet), a participation grade, and they are added to daily work, quizzes, and test which all count equally.
You earn the grades you get!!! Work hard and ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST!!!
NOTE: If you see youre having trouble, dont wait to let me know tell me ASAP. Ill help you. I am here to help you any way I can. I also stay after school if it is needed. Talk with me if that becomes necessary.
GO GAFFNEY! GO GMS! GO GAFFNEY! GO GMS! GO GAFFNEY! GO GMS!
Textbooks
Your child has been issued textbooks and is responsible for taking care of them so they can be returned at the end of the year in good condition. Any lost or damaged textbooks must be paid for at the end of the year before going to eighth grade.
NOTE: Students, I hope I havent thrown too much at you. Parents, I hope this has been informative for you. Please help your child make a positive adjustment to seventh grade by encouraging him/her to become all they can.
STUDENTS: REMEMBER, ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING!!! -- AND THAT YOUR REPUTATION WILL BE SURE TO FOLLOW YOU EVERYWHERE YOU GO, SO MAKE SURE IT IS A GOOD ONE, IT COULD BE CONTAGIOUS!!!
*Parents before every test, I send home a review sheet. If you sign the review, your child gets 5 points on his/her test.
I have informed my students that anyone who needs extra assistance in math should arrange to stay after school, come during lunch, or just let me know and we can try to make an arrangement. I will be more than happy to help anyone that puts forth effort in class. However, anyone who doesn't apply themselves in class, cannot take advantage of this opportunity.
We have homework every night Monday-Thursday. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
