Theme: We began our week learning all about fall harvests. Because our letter of the week was C, we spent a lot of time on corn. On Tuesday, we made an ear of corn, sang songs about scarecrows (to protect our corn) and talked all about how corn is used many different ways. The children also had a chance to play with corn meal! They really liked the texture and had a lot of fun while working on fine motor skills. We spent Wednesday learning all about crows and made our own by cutting our circles. The children are really doing a good job developing their cutting skills. Our poem to remember how to hold scissors is “fingers on the bottom, thumb up top, open shut them, chop, chop, chop!” Thursday at circle time, we used a picture of candy corn to talk about top, bottom and middle. This was followed with a silly Top, Bottom and Middle game. The children are very good at using positional words. Also, we reviewed the letter C and glued white, orange and yellow tissue squares to candy corn shape (using positional words). Friday we made large letter C’s and decorated them with various items. C is for collage! We continued talking about using pictures to give us clues to figure out what the story is about. In addition, we practiced our predicting skills. Some of the children are beginning to understand the concept of beginning sounds. When possible, point out A, B and C beginning letter sounds as well as continue to work on their names and shapes. Most are doing well with this. We are coming along just great!!! Our number of the week was 3 and our Word Wallet Words (sight words) are: a, I, apple, yellow, like, orange and Jesus. Some of the books we read include Corn, Corn Aplenty, Julius’s Candy Corn, Crows, Counting Crows, We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt and more.
Religion: They learned that people show love to those in our lives by being nice and being good to each other. We call this showing God’s love. We also talked about how we need to remember to thank God. We read about Jesus and the 10 sick men in which only one man thanked Jesus for healing him. This story is called The Thankful Leper.
I am thankful to the Lord for blessing me with such kind families wonderful children. Thank you for allowing me to teach your children, even for such a short time. It is amazing how quickly we formed such close bonds. I will miss them so much.
