Welcome to Mrs. Millwood's

Jungle Journal

Congratulations to Zaj Eugene and Brooklyn Jolly our newly elected class Student Council Representatives!!

I am very excited about the wonderful group of students I have in my class this year.  They are working hard and learning a lot . As you have learned 3rd grade is an exciting yet challenging year. Your child is expected to become more responsible this year. This includes following all classroom/school rules, listening, following directions, etc. Please encourage your child to pay attention, follow directions, complete all classwork, tests, etc. every day. Students also need to check over all work before they turn it in. Once the work is turned in students will not be allowed to complete it later. This is crucial to their becoming responsible for their actions/choices.

Please encourage your child to READ and take Accelerated Reader TESTS weekly. I want students to read, read, and read.  It has been proven that students, who read everyday, tend to do better in school.Thank you for your continued support.

Things to remember:

  • Folders with your child's papers will be sent home on Tuesdays in a Bright YELLOW folder. Please review papers, sign, and return to school on Wednesday.
  • 3rd graders receive letter grades for 4 subjects : Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies.
  • Reading Tests are normally on Thursday.
  • Spelling Tests are normally on Friday.
  • Please send any money in a labeled envelope.
  • ** VERY IMPORTANT---Please remember to send a note if your child will be going home a different way.

Please do not let your child stress about homework. I only expect them to try their best. If they get stumped on a homework question, please make a note of it on their paper so I can see what needs to be taught/retaught one-on-one or as a class. Thank you for all that you do.

I hope that this schoolnotes site will provide an additional form of communication between you and I. This site will be updated regularly and you may check it to find information concerning your child's school experience. In addition, always feel free to contact me at the school (487-1243) or by email.

Again, I truly enjoying teaching your children. Please do not hesitate to let me know if I can answer any questions or if you have any concerns.

The following is an overview of what our class is currently studying-

Math-  Unit 4- Division

Please  continue to practice multiplication facts 0-12 at home. This will be extremely beneficial to your child. You may want to use flash cards or try to play some games for this. Some are found at the bottom of my website .If your child wants to play "Who Wants to be a Mathionaire" use this link: http://www.mathsisfun.com/games/mathionaire-multiplication-quiz.html They can also take a practice quiz at this link-http://www.thatquiz.com/tq/practice.html?arithmetic

Reading/ELA-Please encourage your child to READ and take Accelerated Reader TESTS weekly. I want students to read, read, and read.  It has been proven that students, who read everyday, tend to do better in school.  With your help we can instill a love of reading.  Talk with  your child about the kinds of things they would like to read about and then help them find those books.  Keep books in the car to read during trips or while waiting for other siblings to get out of activities or school.  Make reading fun!  We are participating in the Book It program.  Students have the opportunity to earn pizza certificates for earning AR points.
