We are 100 Days smarter!  We will celebrate 100 days of school on Monday, February 6, 2012.  We will have a day of 100.  Be sure to ask about it!

Look for a note in your child's agenda about our upcoming Stone Soup week! 

 

Your child will bring home an agenda every afternoon.  Be sure to look at it and sign it each evening.  It will contain notes and information about your child's day!

If you would like to send in extra snacks, I would appreciate it.  We would like to have Cheerios! The cafeteria provides either fresh fruit or fresh vegetables on Mondays, Wednedays and Fridays.

Homework has begun.  You have a monthly calendar in your child's notebook.  Please initial each evening.  All homework should be returned on Fridays.

Homework this week:

Monday - Write the letters l, L five times each

Tuesday - Write the word "they" 5 times each

Wednesday - Complete the math worksheet.

Thursday - Study your spelling words.

Friday - Spelling Test and Show and Tell letter "l".

Word cards will be coming home each week for your review and practice.  We will add the cards as we introduce the new words.  Please review the words with your child.  In May your student will be assessed on reading, writing and spelling these 25 words.

 Reading/ Language Arts

This week we are learning about the letter lL. We will be reading stories about 100 Day, Valentine's Day and friendship.We will focus on characters this week.  We will continue to practice retelling.

Our word this week is "they".  We will also learn the word,"love".  We will have a spelling test on Friday.  Be sure to study the words on your homework calendar.  

Please be sure to read each evening.  Look for punctuation and ask your child about what he/she knows about reading so far!

Zoo-phonics is a great program and the children love it.  Be sure to ask them all about what they are learning.  We have been learning the signals and sounds for all the animals.

 POPCORN WORDS

 

Popcorn words are words that pop up all the time while we are reading. We will learn many words this year that pop up!

MATH

This week we continue our unit on measurement.  We will use new vocabulary words like length, same as, shorter than, longer than, big, medium and tall.
We will also be celebrating our 100 days of school.  We will write about 100 things we can eat and we will sort and count out our 100 day snack!

 

 

SCIENCE

This week  we will focus on our five senses and comparing holidays. We will talk about the different weather we have seen at different holidays.

 

SOCIAL STUDIES   

We will be celebrating 100 Day and comparing holidays.  We will talk about the different ways people celebrate holidays.

Thursday - PE with Ms. Chester- Don't forget to wear your tennis shoes.

Friday - Art with Mrs. Crump

Don't forget to look for Boxtops on your food items!  They mean money for our school.  Send them in a bag with your child's name on the bag and my name too.

Lunch

Our lunch time is 12:05.  You are welcome to join us for lunch.  You will sign in in the office and meet us at the cafeteria.  You may sit at our table with us or take your child to the picnic tables. 

Kindergartners can purchase an extra on Fridays only.  If you want your child to be able to do this, be sure that money is in their account. The extras your child can choose from are: cookies, vanilla, chocolate or strawberry icecream.
