WELCOME "We're Wild About LEARNING!"
Reading - We will continue with our theme this week entitled "Problem Solvers", and that is what our characters will do, solve problems. This week our story is "The Last Dragon". Peter will solve a problem with the help of some new friends in Chinatown. Have you ever wondered how other people celebrate the New Year? We will find out at least one different celebration this week. Spelling words will have the dge, ge, and ce sound patterns. We will continue working with verbs but will also add adjectives to our parts of speech list. Math - fractions / decimals Social Studies - North Carolina's Statehood - Unit 3 Please make sure that you are signing your child's agenda nightly and looking over their assignments. Scholastic Reading Counts is up and running, and many students have already taken advantage of this. Please encourage your child to read to you at least 20 to 30 minutes every night. This is so valuable for your child's comprehension and fluency. We will enjoy another reading celebration at the end of February. Again, there are students who have already read and tested on their two books and continue to read and add to their lists. Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 21, as we prepare to enjoy a Family Night of Reading. A hotdog supper will begin at 5:00, followed by readers at various stations from 6 until 7:00. Flyers will be coming home in your child's Wednesday folder. Also on February 21st, the fourth grade classes will attend the presentation of Honk. Spring fever is on the rise. We have had several classroom discussions about behavior and attitudes. Please remind your child of the rules that they need to follow, and the homework that needs to be completed. Sent home in your child's Wednesday folder this week was a list of our classmates for valentines if your child wishes to participate. We have 22 students and any valentines to be distributed may be sent in on Monday or Tuesday of next week. There is a lot going on at Hurley this week - have a great one!
