Dear Students and Parents,

 

The summer reading assignment for grades 5 and 6…

 

Please read 2 books at your grade level and complete 2 book reports on the enclosed index cards.  You are free to choose your books. Please reference the enclosed SUGGESTED summer reading lists for ideas. 

 

Ask your parents, older friends, teachers, and librarians to direct you to books related to your interests and concerns.  Talking with friends about books will encourage your reading and stimulate your curiosity about the larger world around you.  Look for award winning titles, Newbery Medal winners, or Newbery Honor books.

 

Follow the guidelines below for your book reports.  Please be prepared to present your book reports to the class the first week of the 2009-2010 school year.  The index cards will be collected by your reading teacher and will be included in your first quarter reading grade.
