All classes will have a test on Monday, Aug. 25. Art notebooks will also be graded next week.

6th graders: Know the 7 Universal Symbols. Study the question,answers, and vocabulary about the artist, Peter Max.

8th graders and the Advanced Art class: Memorize the 7 elements of Design. Know the answers to the 8 questions I gave you in class about Medieval Art.

All art students received a brochure that they are to give to parents. Parents, please read the brochure, sign it, and have your child return the portion with the signatures.


6th GRADE OBJECTIVES:
1. The student will demonstrate symmetry using his first name in a design and demonstrate knowledge of seven universal symbols in this design.
2. Recognize the work of artist Peter Max and identify his symmetrical work.
3. Understand new vocabulary.
4. Demonstrate the use of complete sentences in paragraph writing as they describe a work of art.

8th Grade and Advanced Art Objectives:
1. Create a portfolio with "illuminated manuscript" in the style of Medieval artists.Exhibit decorative lettering using 3 inital letters, good craftsmanship, limited color, and decorative border.
2. Identify specific works of art from the Medieval period.
3. Demonstrate the use of complete sentences in paragraph writing as they describe a work of art.
4. Understand new vocabulary.


HOMEWORK for Advanced Art only:
Maintain a sketchbook with three homework drawings due on Wed. Aug. 27. Draw large enough to fill up the paper. The 3 drawings shall be your ideas for the backdrop that can be used the two anchors at WCJH TV station.

Advanced Art Supply List August 2008-09

2 standard #2 pencils
1 set of professional graphite drawing pencils Such as Ebony, 2B, 4B, 6B, and H pencils.
3 different kinds of large erasers such as Pink Pearl, Art Gum, kneaded, Magic Rub,etc.
1 sketchpad white drawing paper 8 ½ X 11”or 9X12”
1 3 pronged folder with pockets; fill with 50 sheets of loose leaf paper (will be used as art notebook)
1 gal. zip-lock bag (to hold art supplies)
1 set markers asst. colors 8 to 12 ct.
2 permanent Sharpie fine or ultra fine black marking pens(Some pens have double tips that are suitable.)
2 rolls paper towels
1 work shirt ( an old large T-shirt or button-down the front shirt), apron, lab coat to protect clothing from permanent stains
Drawing pencils and art supplies can be found at Wal-Mart in the Arts & Crafts section, at Hobby Lobby on Gause Blvd., and at Education Station on Brownswitch Rd.

1 large eraser such as Pink Pearl
