Cold reading-review poem

Spelling- students say-spell-say new words.

Language!- Unit 4 Lesson 6 Steps 5 & 6. Students will read Mega Dialog for fluency and work p. 161 in the Interactive Text.

Writing- Work on adding expansion details to blueprint.

Reading- Introduce Leah's Pony. Discuss vocabulary word meanings and the teacher reads story aloud.

Set: Have students look at the picture on p. 190 of a deserted farm. Talk about why the people might have left.

Close: Call on students to give main events from story.

Tuesday

Cold reading- do # 8

Spelling- write words 3x each.

Language!- Unit 4 Lesson 7 Steps 1 & 2. Students participate in phonemic awareness drills and review the meaning of 'compound words'.

Writing- the teacher will model using the blueprint to create a paragraph.

Reading- Discuss cause and effect and complete workbook p. 62 together.

Set: Tell students a story about me entering the classroom one morning soaking wet. Tell them it was raining when I left my car to come in. Ask them what they think could have “caused” me to get wet.

Close: Call on students to generate their own examples of cause and effect.

Cold reading- correct # 8

Spelling- students complete seek a word.

Language!- Unit 4 Lesson 7 Steps 3 & 4. Students will use context to discriminate if a word is being used as a noun or a verb. Then they will write dictated sentences.

Writing- students will use their blueprints to write a draft of a paragraph.

Reading- Students will orally read story and discuss.

Set: Give students a quick summary of story.

Close: Ask students questions about the story.

Thursday

Cold reading- complete # 9

Spelling- study words

Language!- Unit 4 Lesson 7 Steps 5 & 6. Students reread the Mega Dialog and read Phrase fluency R 39. Then they orally summarize the main idea of the dialog.

Writing- Work with teacher on revisions.

Reading- complete Reteaching 53 as study guide. Practice vocabulary words with flash cards.

Set: Pantomime vocabulary and have students guess the word.

Close: Give a definition and call on individuals to name the word.

HW- write words 3 x each

Spelling- test

Language!- Unit 4 Lesson 8 Steps 1 & 2. Students will complete phonemic awareness drills and sort syllables by vowel sounds.

Writing- Complete final draft of paragraph and allow students to share.

Reading- Story Test

Set- quick review before test

Close- ask students to share their opinions on Leah's Pony.

Monday

10-3 Benchmark Fractions. Watch the Envision lesson. Complete Practice 10-3 in class.

Set: Tell the students that I am “estimating” it will take about 15 minutes to watch the lesson. Ask if that means it definitely will be exactly 15 minutes or if it was an educated guess. Tell them they will learn to use the skill of estimation with fractions today.

Close: Call on students to explain the meaning of “estimation” and “benchmark fractions”.

HW: Reteaching 10-3

Tuesday

10-4 Equivalent Fractions. Watch the Envision lesson. Use fraction strips to reinforce the concept.

Set: Ask the students whether they would rather have ½ or 6/12 of a pizza. Lead them to the conclusion that it is the same amount.

Close: Call on students to explain what equivalent fractions are.

Objectives: 4.1.f(dok2)

Wednesday

Review equivalent fractions. Student will complete Practice 10-4 as guided practice.

Set: Hold up pictures showing fractional parts and have them decide if they are equivalent.

Close: Call on students to name a pair of equivalent fractions.

Thursday

10-5 Fractions in simplest form. Watch Envision lesson and practice at board.

Set: Tell the students I am going to give them two examples of directions for making a peanut butter sandwich. One will be wordy and the other straight forward. Ask them which was simplest. Explain that fractions are the same way; a fractional part can have many names, but one will be simplest.

Close: Ask students to explain in their own words what simplest form means.

Friday

Review simplest form. Complete Practice 10-5.

Set: Show sets of fractions and point out the simplest form.

Close: Call on students to name the simplest form when given two choices.
