OUR GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT Our guidance department is designed to support, encourage and promote the academic, career, personal/social growth and development of all students. Through the guidance curriculum by the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, various needs of our students will be addressed. As school counselors, we work with parents, students, teachers, and community agencies to help ensure that students learn and develop to their highest potentials. Let me introduce myself, my name is Richard Austin and I am one of the counselors here at North Rowan Middle School. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education K-6 from High Point University and an Advanced Masters of Science in School Counseling from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. As a school counselor, I counsel students individually. I facilitate group counseling such as the Life Skills for Success and Take Control of Anger groups. I am on the Student Assistance Team Committee which provides strategies for students who are struggling in academics and/or behavior. Also, I coordinate the peer mediation program which consists of students mediating other students who have a conflict. Furthermore, I am the Section 504 coordinator and McKinney-Vento(homeless) contact for the school. I look forward to working with you and your child. I can be reached at (704)639-3018 Ext. 126 or through email. |
