Mrs. Debbi Johnson ~ 6th Grade Tigers Language Arts / Reading & Social Studies Corriher-Lipe Middle School 214 West Rice Street, Landis, NC 28088 (704)857-7946 Important Dates to Remember: SIXTH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS AND SOCIAL STUDIES TOPICS FOR THE YEAR: Read and view a variety of genres (print and non print) ; Editorials, Articles, Novels, Literature Book, videos and DVDs Types of Writing: Expressive, Informational, Argumentative, Critical Stance, Problem/Solution Grammar Focus: Eight Parts of Speech and sentence structure Units: Ancient Greece, Middle Ages, WW II & Holocaust, Mystery Five Themes of Geography Debates Study of Europe, Russia, and South America READING: Please make sure your child reads each night from their library book. HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned on a regular basis to reinforce learning and improve reading skills. GRADING POLICY: Grades will be determined by averaging the following grades: homework, class participation, tests, quizzes, projects, and class work. COMMUNICATION: Sixth grade planning period is between 12:15 and 1:30 daily. Homework Details for All Classes Homework will be assigned on a regular basis to reinforce and to expand on class work. Homework will only be accepted ONE DAY LATE. Any lost handouts will not be replaced. The student's homework grade average will be one component of the quarterly grade. .
