SIXTH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS




TOPICS FOR THE YEAR:

Read and view a variety of genres (print and non print) ; Editorials, Articles, Novels, Literature Book, videos and DVDs



Types of Writing: Expressive,  Informational, Argumentative, Critical Stance, Problem/Solution



Grammar Focus: Eight Parts of Speech and sentence structure



Units:  Middle Ages, WW II & Holocaust







CLASSROOM ASSESSMENTS: Vocabulary knowledge, evaluation of reading skills, writing activities, presentations, projects, class work and homework.


READING:  Please make sure your child reads each night from their library book.  Journals are graded each Tuesday and Wednesday night.


HOMEWORK:  Homework will be assigned on a regular basis to reinforce learning and improve reading skills.


GRADING POLICY:     Grades will be determined by averaging the following grades: homework, class participation, tests, quizzes, projects, and class work.


COMMUNICATION:  Sixth grade planning period is between 12:15 and 1:30 daily.

Homework will be assigned on a regular basis

to reinforce and to expand on class work.

Homework will only be accepted ONE DAY LATE.

Any lost handouts will not be replaced.


The student's homework grade average will

be one component of the quarterly grade.
