Welcome to Mrs. Smith's web page.  I will try to keep this page updated with school-wide happenings and daily assignments.  Please contact me at any time if you have any questions or concerns.

INFORMATION

The student textbook is available on line by going to www.bigideasmath.com Click on the "Students" tab in order to access student resources including the student textbook and practice quizzes and tests.  These quizzes and tests may be used for extra credit provided the student prints out their quiz/test and attaches all neatly completed work.

All students are required to have a separate binder with dividers that is used only for Math class.  Students must bring their binder and planner to class every day.

Many students have been working very hard this year but, unfortunately, that is not the case for all students.  For those students who have not been putting forth their best effort, the closer we get to the end of the school year, the more difficult it becomes to raise failing grades.  Please contact me (a note in the planner is fine) if you would like a copy of your child's grade report.  Students are strongly encouraged to make-up missing assignments.

Thursday, Dec. 10 (rev.) Today we worked on changing Improper Fractions to Mixed Number and changing Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions.  I revised my plans so that all work could be finished well before the end of class so that students would not have to do homework tonight. The students were given about 45 minutes to work on an assignment at the end of class.  For those who did not complete the work (which should take no more than 15 or 20 minutes), it must be turned in tomorrow.

Thursday, Dec. 10:  Since so many children will be at school until late this evening, there is no written assignment.  Please contact the school to purchase tickets for either the Thursday night or Friday night performance of The Nutcracker.  Your entire family will enjoy seeing the performance by our very talented students!

Wednesday, Dec. 9: Due to the large number of students who are out of class due to their performance in the Nutcracker, there is no written assignment tonight.  However, students need to be constantly reviewing previously taught concepts.

Tuesday, Dec. 8: No Homework other than continuing to work on late or missing assignments

Monday, Dec. 7:  Tomorrow the students will be taking a test on Addition and Subtraction of Fractions.  In my experience, students who are not present on the day of a test and need to take it in a "make-up" situation, do not usually do as well as if they had taken the test on the assigned day.  Please do your best to see that your child is present on test days.  Homework:  Study for test; pay particular attention to finding the LCM, the GCF, and Simplifying Fractions.
