The Standards we are investigating this week (2-6 thru 2-10, 2012) are: S8P3b. Demonstrate the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on an object in terms of gravity, friction, and inertia.A Closed Notes Test over the the following questions and vocabulary words will be Thursday, February 9, 2012
1. What is the relationship between speed and motion. Motion is the change in distance from an object and speed is the measure of how fast that occurs. 2. Compare and contrast speed and velocity. They both involve an object traveling a distance over time. Velocity adds a direction to the speed. 3. Compare and contrast velocity and acceleration. They both involve speed in a given direction. Acceleration includes the change in velocity. 1. motion - the state in which one object’s distance from another is changing2. reference point – a place or object used for comparison to determine if an object is in motion 3. speed – the distance an object travels per unit of time 4. average speed – the overall rate of speed at which an object moves; calculated by dividing the total distance an object travels by the total time 5. instantaneous speed – the speed of an object at one instant in time 6. velocity – speed in a given direction 9. International System of Units - The system of units (SI) used by scientists to measure the properties of matter 10. meter – the basic SI unit of length |
