Dear Students,

It was a true pleasure teaching each and every one of you this year.  You have all grown academically, socially, and of course, physically.  Please continue to read  and write daily.  Remember that reading and writing are the building blocks you will need for everything you will do in life.    Thank you for giving me such positive memories to cherish of my last year at Wyoming Public School. 

P.S.   Be sure to practice your mathematics facts and invite me to your Grade 8 graduation.

Rest up tonight after such a wonderful day at Western!  Review the properties of geometric solids (pyramids, prisms, faces, vertices, edges).  Review the names of geometric solids (square pyramid, cube, rectangular prism, etc.).  Review translations.   (chpts 11, and 14)

1.  Field trip Monday. Here are reminders of what was discussed during our class meeting:

  • come directly into the school when you arrive (between 8:45 -9:00)
  • dress for the weather
  • Wear gym shoes!  NO SANDALS, CROCS, or FLIPFLOPS
  • washroom break
  • come to our classroom and sit quietly in your desk
  • we will board the bus at 9:00 sharp
  • regular bus rules will apply (e.g., hands and feet to self, stay seated, voices at a respectable level)
  • backpacks should include towel, bathing suit, lunch, snacks, fluids, and a plastic bag to carry wet clothes home
  • parent volunteers to drive and meet us (maps were sent home)
  • stay with your group throughout day
  • participate actively and show good sportsmanship
  • have ride home arranged for when we return to school (approximately 4:00)
  • SCHOOL WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR lost or stolen IPODS, PS2, OR ANY OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICESLeave these home.

2.  Track and Field is scheduled for tomorrow.  Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather.  e.g., wear sunscreen, wear a hat, wear comfortable clothing for running and jumping, and of course wear proper footwear.  If it is suppose to be cool, bring a jacket!  The rain date is scheduled for Thursday.

3.  Permission forms were sent home today for our year-end field trip.  Please return money and permission slips by May 22.  Thanks.

To make more "oobleck", you simply need cornstarch and water.  Mix it about 2 parts cornstarch with 1 part water.  You can add food colouring for effect.  DO NOT EAT IT OR POUR IT DOWN THE SINK!   WASH YOUR HANDS AFTERWARDS.

Finish "green" retell, relate, reflect sheet from "Uncle Henry's Dinner Guest," or "Dust Bowl" depending on which story you read.

You will be writing a narrative tomorrow. Be thinking about what you might see, hear, smell, touch, taste as well as how you might use dialogue, sound, thoughts, and action to make your story come to life. What will your story be about? You are not being asked to write this at home. Just gather your ideas.

We will begin multiplication and division this week.  Here is a wonderful site for printable worksheets.  Practice often so these facts become AUTOMATIC.

3.  Ask your parents to describe what your family is doing to save energy.  e.g., Do you use energy efficient light bulbs?  What kind of windows are there in your home?  Does your family recycle?  Do you compost?  Do you have a clothesline?  Are plugs pulled when not in use?   etc...We will be using these ideas, and the ones from our research to help us design the ultimate "Green" house.

For those students away today - we did the introductory lesson from Chapter 4.  Take a look at the "Do You Remember?" questions.

1.  Enjoy the snow!  If you get a chance, try to figure out the steps for making a snowman. (or some other snow related procedure)

4.  Think of something that you could teach someone else to do with procedural writing.  e.g.  How to clean the cat litter. How to put up a tent.  How to make a jelly sandwich.  Be creative.

 

 

 

 

I would like to commend everyone for putting forth a solid effort today on their month-end writing form assessment (recount).  I noticed many past tense verbs and time order words in your recounts.  Good for you.  We will begin learning about procedural writing next week.  If you have any amazing recipes that your family would be willing to share, we can put together a class recipe book with November's writing form (procedure).

2.  Read for your book report - booklets were given out tonight.  Be keeping track of characters thoughts, feelings, and interactions with the other characters.  Also, be watching out for clear descriptions of the characters. (e.g. Does it say what colour eyes, hair, completion your character has?)  Keeping a record of the page numbers that you find these tidbits will help you later when you begin writing.

I just recently noticed that our Schoolnotes page needs to have a grade change made. It still reads Grade 4. As soon as I am able I will have this corrected to read Grade 4/5.
