 In our reading focus lessons, we will begin second quarter by focusing on the research process and locating & verifying information.

In reading, we are integrating social studies and completing a unit on Blackbeard the Pirate. I will be reading aloud The Mystery of Blackbeard the Pirate by Carole Marsh to the entire class. During literacy centers the students will be completing various activities to build fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. As a comclusion to our unit on October 28th, we would like to have "Pirate Day."

In math, second quarter will begin with a unit on building the understanding of place value, addition & subtraction, problem solving, and estimation.

In science, we are beginning our unit on rocks and minerals. The students will be describing & evaluating the properties of rocks & minerals and determining the uses or rocks & minerals.

Important Homework Information

Your child is responsible for copying homework into their planner
everyday. Students are expected to complete homework nightly and turn it in the next day, unless noted otherwise. I understand that occasionally there are circumstances that may prevent your child from completing a homework assignment. If this is the case, please send a note to school, and I will excuse the missed homework assignment, as well as, have your child complete the assignment the next night.

Please remember that it is your child's homework. Helping your child may be necessary and encouraged, but please refrain from completing it for them.
