POETRY PACKET REQUIREMENTS

Background:

We have begun studying poetry in English class.  Throughout the year you have learned about literary devices, figurative language, and you have explored how these devices help authors to create mood and “paint a picture” for the reader.  During our poetry unit we will be introduced to several different types of poems and famous poets who use these devices to create beautiful and rich pieces of written work.

Task:

Now it is your turn to create original poems!  You will be creating your own poetry packet.  You will draw upon all of the knowledge you have learned to create several different types of original poems.  You will have class time to create the rough drafts of your poems.  We will also utilize the computer lab in order to create a PowerPoint presentation of your poems.  You are expected to use the literary devices that we have discussed in class to create your poems.

Your poetry packet MUST include ten (10) typed poems on separate Power Point slides or typed up pages! Each poem page must be decorated to reflect the statement or mood of your poem.  For example, if you wrote a poem about rainbows and butterflies, then you would attach clip art of rainbows and butterflies!  See the attached rubric for specific grading requirements. You must choose ten (10) different types of poems from the list below.

1.      I am poem
