Monday, September 20th – Friday, September 24th UPDATE
The teachers at the elementary school and high school have been working hard on the upcoming charter renewal. We have been working with professors from Wesley College on our curriculum, so you may see us going back and forth from Wesley College’s education department throughout the next couple weeks. We are very happy to have their input and help and we believe that this collaboration helps our curriculum to be the best it can be! Updates: Reader’s workshop – The children have been working in reading clubs and focusing on building vocabulary. They are using context clues to determine meanings of unknown words and are then using dictionaries to check their definitions. Math Club – 2nd grade math clubs are continuing to work on data collection, representation, and analysis. Third grade math clubs are focusing on place value, problem solving skills, communicating mathematically, and collecting, representing and analyzing data. Writing – We are going to review the writing process this week and the children are going to choose a topic to write about and begin the process. Science/Social Studies – We are continuing our study of biomes and biodiversity. The children are learning more about deciduous forests, as well as other biomes (grasslands, deserts, rainforests). These are just introductions to different biomes this week, but soon each class will be starting to become experts on one kind of biome. In social studies this week, we are going to introduce culture. We are going to compare our culture to other cultures in the world.
Important Dates: October 2nd – Fall festival October 7th – Scholastic book orders due October 8th – Inservice day for teachers – no school for students
