HMS HISTORY DAY 2009

WELCOME TO HISTORY DAY!

This year's History Day theme is:
The Individual in History: Actions and Legacies 

Papers and Websites are due on Friday, March 13
Exhibits, Documentaries and Performances are due on Saturday, April 4

More on the theme:  You can read an online discussion about the theme and its implications moderated by Dr. Cathy Gorn, executive director of National History Day and a professor at the University of Maryland.  The discussion is very informative and will help you understand this year's theme better.  See the link below to read the discussion.

Class schedule:
 
  • Grade 6 - day 3 or day 4
  • Grade 7 - day 3 or day 4
  • Grade 8 - day 5
Students in History Day will leave social studies and come to Discovery Place for one 45-minute class each week.  Two Masters degree interns from UCONN, Mr. Manghnani and Mr. Scheer, will also be working with students in History Day.
 

AFTER SCHOOL HELP IS AVAILABLE EVERY MONDAY FROM 2:35 TO 4:00.  COME WITH A SPECIFIC TASK YOU WOULD LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH SUCH AS FINDING INTERVIEW SUBJECTS, TAKING NOTES, PLANNING YOUR WEBSITE OR OUTLINING YOUR PAPER.

WEEK OF FEB. 23-27:

Additional after school help will be available on the dates below.  Students should sign up in Discovery Place to attend after school help sessions.  Preference will be given to students who are writing papers or creating websites.

Tues. Feb. 24 2:30-5:30
Wed. Feb. 25, 2:30-5:30

WORK FOR THE WEEK:
Try to get interviews completed.
Return vacation goals sheets.
Begin Annotated Bibliography.
Work on writing scripts for performances.
Start narration for documentaries.
