This week we are reading "The Keeping Quilt" by Patricia Polacco.  We will be working on this story until next Friday.  The comprehension and vocabulary tests will be Friday, November 14.  The spelling test will be this Friday, November 7th.  

Please be sure to send in the permission slip and money for the field trip to the Nutcracker at the Florida Theater.  It is due the 21st, but the sooner you have it in, the less you have to worry about it!!

We are having a little trouble with logging the books we have read.  In third grade, the standard is to read 30 chapter books.  In order for the books to be counted they must be logged correctly on the picture or chapter book reading logs.  We went over how to do this several times at the beginning of the year and students should now be able to do this on their own.  I have broken down the standard to make it easier.  8 first quarter, 7 second quarter, 8 third quarter, and 7 fourth quarter.  At this point, students should have at least 9 books logged.  Please keep in mind that any books read over the summer count towards this standard as well as other books they have read and finished at home.  It takes 4 picture books or magazine articles to equal 1 chapter book.
