NOVEMBER NEWS

PHONICS
In phonics we will continue to work hard on our letter recognition, our letter writing, along with our Zoophonic sounds. These are highly important skills to master in order for our reading and writing skills to improve. We will continue to learn new words. We will also begin to learn different aspects of reading, such as rhyming words in poetry. The most important thing you can do at home is to practice those letters every night and READ! The more you expose your child to books the more successful they will be with their own reading skills.
Here is a list of words we have been practicing so far: I, a, see, like, can, the, at, in, play, to, go, with.

WRITING
In writing we will continue to write simple sentences using words we know, such as see and like. We will also continue to improve our spelling skills using our letter sounds. We will begin to add  details  to our stories using key words such as first, next, and last in order to expand our stories.

Math
We have mastered numbers 0-5 and now we will move on to numbers through 10. We have studied patterns and shapes and this month we will move on with shapes, fractions and geometry.

SOCIAL STUDIES
This month we will be studying the history behind Thanksgiving. We will break this topic up into several weeks, where we will learn about the Pilgrims, the Native Americans and the story of the First Thanksgiving. We will learn how these groups lived, how they survived from the land and how they impacted one another. We will end our studies with our own Thanksgiving feast, where we will get to dress as the Native Americans did back during this time.
