ATTENTION: PARENTS/ GUARDIANS & STUDENTS

          All 6th, 7th & 8th grade “Tardy Sign-In” and “Early Check-out” will be done in the Attendance Office (ROOM 114).  Therefore, please be aware of the following policies regarding tardy sign-in, early check-out, and attendance.  This process helps minimize classroom and attendance office disruptions.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

C. LIZARRIBAR

* TARDY SIGN-IN

Students that arrive to school late must provide a note from parent/guardian or medical/dental office stating reason for tardiness in order to be “excused” on student’s attendance record.

* EARLY CHECK-OUT

Students should be checked out early only when there is an illness, emergency or medical/dentist appointment.  A note from the parent/guardian must be provided indicating time of dismissal to the attendance office before school.  Student will receive an early dismissal slipsigned by the attendance clerk.  At the sign-out time student is to report to the attendance office for check-out.  Students will not be checked out after 3:15 P.M. unless emergency or prior arrangements have been made with the attendance office.  Students are not permitted to leave campus early without being signed out in person by a parent, guardian, or adult (18 years or older) listed on the blue emergency card.  The adult must provide picture identification.

* ATTENDANCE

Students returning to school from an absence shall be required to present a written explanatory excuse note from their parent/guardian or medical office, stating the cause for the absence.  If note is not provided student will be “unexcused” for the absence.  Please ensure that students first and last name with date of absence is written on the note.

Severe Weather Dismissal Plan

Throughout the year we may encounter severe weather (tornado warning and lightning.) As a precaution, we monitor weather via the weather channel, internet and district bulletins. We ask that every parent discuss a severe weather contingency plan with their students. We will use the following procedures during severe storms to maintain student safety:

1.         At 4:00 p.m., students who usually walk to school or ride bicycles will be monitored in the cafeteria until weather permits them to leave safely. We can only release students for pick-up to persons listed on the blue cards. If you want to designate someone to pick up your child during severe weather, please be sure that person is listed on the blue card.

2.             At 4:00 p.m. car riders will be monitored in the cafeteria. Students may contact their parents by asking permission to use personal cell phones or by using the school phone in the cafeteria. Parents will need to come into the cafeteria to pick up their students.

3.             If weather permits, bus students will be dismissed by groups and walk under the covered walkways to the bus zone. If weather does not permit, students will be monitored in designated areas.

After School Student Pick-up

To alleviate the traffic congestion as parents pick up students we are going to designate two zones

based upon student grade level. 6th grade students will be picked up in the car circle on 18th Avenue North by the school gymnasium. This area is closer to the 6th grade building so the students will not have to walk across campus. Seventh and 8th graders should be picked up in the Seagate Avenue lot. If you have students in multiple grade levels, please use the 18th Avenue North pick-up area. Please be advised that 3rd Street is not a designated pick-up area, and you will be cited for a moving violation.

Please follow these guidelines to minimize traffic and maximize student safety:

1.              Multiple lanes will be set up in both areas. Please pull up to the front of the lane.

2.      Do not stop in the middle of the parking lot or in the street to allow students to enter your
car. Student safety is more important than convenience.

3.              Do not block Seagate Avenue by stopping in the street since the buses must be able to get
in to the bus circle.

4.              Please arrive on time. All students should be picked up no later than 4:15 p.m.  If you have an emergency, please contact the main office at 247-5929 so your student will not be waiting in the pick-up area.
