MRS. T. PARKER'S

AROUND THE WORLD IN 180 DAYS!!!
Welcome to my webpage. I am very happy to be able to share information with you in this way. Read everything listed below! Be sure to check out the links at the bottom of this page. There is something there for everyone!!!!

LET'S SEE WHAT WE ARE LEARNING!
READING:

Reading is split into 3 parts: Journal Writing, Skill Practice and Reading time.
***Please feel free to stop by and read your child's journal at any time. I ask them different types of questions that they respond to in the best way possible.
Reading: We will begin reading In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson
This novel teaches students about the Chinese New Year while also hitting major reading skills along the way. Please encourage your child to take the novel home if they feel they need to read over the chapters prior to a quiz time.

WRITING/GRAMMAR:
EXPOSITORY WRITING: We will be finishing and editing the prompt we started before Christmas break: "If I could change three things about the world"
We are moving to DECIMALS:As of this point your child should be able to: multiply, divide, estimate and practice place value. ***I have given each student a username and password to use online in order to obtain extra credit in Math. Please take the time to help them log on and practice skills they may be struggling with. I look online to see who is working on this. :)

We have now completed our unit on Endangered Animals and Biomes around the world. In order to help your child better understand Science...just simply take a walk and let them explore their ecosystem! Ask them questions about the things that we learned on our field trip to Duke Power and this should start a great conversation about the living things around them.
Throughout the year, we will study the entire world!!! We began with North America. I was very proud of how great the students learned the location of the 50 states. We also just completed our capitals test and they were wonderful! Look for these in the next Thursday Folder. Upon coming back from Christmas break, we are going to discuss Canada for 1 week. We will then move back to Science. Be ready to study Africa next! I am excited!
SHOULD BE A TEAM EFFORT!
