Objective

The students will evaluate a given poem using a reading strategy and practice sentence composing.

Teacher Activities

The teacher will handout and explain Activity 9 (Killgallon-Green) Matching Sentence Structures. Discuss student answers with class. The teacher will then  model TPCASTT with the class using pages 244 and 245 in the Literature book.

Student Activities

Students will complete Activity 9 from Killgallon workbook. Students will work as a class to TPCASTT demonstrated poem and on their own will TPCASTT one of the poems on pages 244-245. Answer the Critical Thinking Questions on page 245.

Assessment/Evaluation

Students will turn in their TPCASTT and the Critical Thinking questions for a grade.

Friday January 16th

Objective

The students will understand the difference between poetry and prose. The students will also be evaluated on the literary terms for this week.

Teacher Activities

The teacher will give a short lecture on the differences between poetry and prose using the Norman Morrison pieces. SOAPStone Morrison pieces as a class.

Student Activities

Students will understand the differences between poetry and prose and use that knowledge to turn one of the poems from yesterday into a prose piece. Students will write ½ to 1 page of prose based on one of the poems from pages 244-245.

Prose will be turned in to the teacher.

The students will learn and utilize new words.  The students will assess knowledge of the 2nd 9 weeks.

The teacher will introduce this week’s words and review proper format.  Words will include:  listless, esoteric, specious, eluded, effusive, eloquent, manifest, inadvertent, chaos, defiant.  The teacher will give the common assessment for the 2nd 9 weeks.

Student Activities

The students will create vocabulary squares using the words provided by the teacher.  They will identify the word, definition, part of speech, a picture, and a sentence.  The students will take the common assessment test for the 2nd 9 weeks.
