NORTH CAROLINA HISTORY

Unit of Study:  World War I

Focus for the weeks of April 16 and 23-- Causes of the war

                                                           Technological advances

                                                           Events unfolding in North Carolina pre-, during and post-war.

                                                           The Great Migration

 Students were given for a Study Guide for their test on April 26, 2012.

                Monday, April 23 Handout entitled Primary Source:  World War I Diary and True or False?:  World War I

                Tuesday, April 24  Students will need to finish an assignment we started in class.  It is a handout entitled North Carolinians Respond to Segregation and Compare and Contrast.

Upcoming due dates for the week of April 23:

                    Common Assessment April 24

                    Test April 26

                    Bell Ringer Notebook collected April 26

     By the end of 8th Grade Social Studies, students will:

     1.  Explain how North Carolina has progressed from colonization to present.

     2.  Explain how North Carolina's diversity influences the development of its culture, and political and economic systems

     3.  Explain North Carolina's role in a Global Society.

     4.  Explain how North Carolina has influenced the development of American society.

      5.  Explain how individuals make a difference.

      6.  Explain how geography influences history.

      7.  Explain how the cultural identity of North Carolina has changed over time.

 

Materials needed for class:  large 3-ring binder, colored pencils, page protectors, dividers, black pens, glue (preferable glue sticks)---These items are also listed on The Blue Tide Team letter.

Grading System:

         Classwork                25%                                                                             

         Homework                10%

         Major assessments    40%

         Minor assessments     25%
