Guidelines for creating a game:

1.     Brainstorm ideas about games you like to play.

2.     Think about the topic for your game board and the kinds of questions you will write on the game cards if you use them.

3.     Think about materials you will need. Game pieces can be made from construction paper or use junk from around the house. Now it’s time to design you game board.

4.     Use scratch paper to sketch ideas for your game board. Then use a pencil to draw the game board on a large piece of paper. Make it colorful. Be sure to have a starting place and ending place for the game markers.

5.     Write questions on the game cards if you game needs them.

6.     What will the name of your game be?

7.     How many people can play your game?

8.     Write clear step-by-step directions and include them with your game.

9.     Now play your game with a family member to be sure it makes sense.

10. Bring it to school on Friday, May 1st  and be ready to play with a 2nd grade buddy!

Re: Multiplication Update

Dear Parents,

Our first week learning about multiplication was spent in concept building. This involved activities that showed the children that multiplication is repeated addition. We did this through the use of manipulatives. Next, we started the 0-3’s times tables. On Monday we will begin 4’s. Looking at their assignments should tell you which facts we are studying. Students should review these facts each night at home using their flashcards.

How can you help at home? Practice, practice, practice! See that your child practices their multiplication facts each night. In school we will be teaching strategies, playing games, doing drills, and every few days we will take a timed test. The timed test is a tool that we use to be assured that your child has memorized their facts.

Thank you so much for your help!
